Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
LASHLEY WINS WWE TITLE
I try to avoid talking about the same topic two weeks in a row if I can help it, but this has been one of those weeks where I simply cannot. Bobby Lashley is finally WWE Champion, and he claimed it in a speculator fashion fitting to his character.
Again, The Miz is one of my favorites, and I do feel that he deserves another shot as champion one day, but Lashley destroying The Miz in under a minute was pretty awesome. While some may have found the lead up to it drawn out, I enjoyed the episode long story of The Miz continuously finding excuses and worming his way out of it until the end.
As for Lashley, this has been a long time coming, and it is crazy to think that it took MVP's management to get Bobby away from the buttock shaking, sister loving, and wife stealing angles that he had been subjected to. Look at the size and strength of Lashley! How did we not get here sooner?
Regardless, this looks set to be a very exciting reign, and maybe, if he feels like working, it might just give us the unfulfilled dream match that is Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
STUPID STROWMAN
Well, it is clearly time for Shane McMahon to fulfill the performance side of his contract once again.
There has been not a huge amount of the enthusiasm for the supposed Shane vs. Braun Strowman match at WrestleMania, and, unless Braun is squashing him in two minutes flat, there really should not be either.
Braun has always been shown as extremely hard to control, and will do what he wants when he wants, even if forbidden not to. Yet, we are now subjected to him regularly being bamboozled by the super intellectual that is the boy wonder, and keeping largely in line about it.
Shane is fun in doses, and when in the right spot, such as when he was tagging with The Miz, but here he is taking yet another WrestleMania spot for what will essentially boil down to some bad-looking punches and a gigantic prat fall. Braun might look stupid now, but just wait till he adds a loss to Shane McMahon to his résumé.
Extra Heat: A few weeks removed from my praising WWE for remembering the tri-brand rules of the Women's tag titles, we have learnt that NXT are going to get their own set after all. Ok, good for the ladies there, but the main roster has barely enough teams as it is. Sigh.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
