Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.
WWE Monday Night Raw
Asuka & Charlotte Flair vs Peyton Royce & Lacey Evans
The reveal of Lacey Evans' pregnancy, presumably at the hands of Ric Flair, made an already tedious match even worse. The match just finished abruptly, with Charlotte Flair's puzzled face acting as a conduit for what the fans think. Quite simply, this is wrestlecrap gold. Which is to say this match and segment overall was the drizzling shits!
Winner: No Contest
Rating: 1/5
Lana vs Shayna Baszler
Shayna Baszler secured a submission victory with the Kirifuda CLutch, which was everything this match needed to be. It was still rubbish, but at least Lana didn't fluke another victory.
Winner: Shayna Baszler
Rating: 1.5/5
Impact Wrestling
Tenille Dashwood vs Nevaeh
Tenille Dashwood was in dire need of a solid victory, and that is exactly what she acheived here. Nevaeh bumped well for Dashwood, with a Taste of Tenille the difference maker, allowing Dashwood to secure the pinfall victory. A decent match which allowed Dashwood to gather some much needed momentum.
Winner: Tenille Dashwood
Rating: 2.5/5
AEW Dark
Renee Mitchell vs Shanna
Both women worked hard to put on a good match, despite the fact that they weren't given much time to work with. A Tiger Suplex was enough from Shanna to secure the pinfall victory, but I have to admit that in her brief exposure, Renee Mitchell looked good on her AEW debut.
Winner: Shanna
Rating: 2/5
Vertvixen vs Tay Conti
Tay Conti smash! Tay Conti smash! Tay Conti smash! Once again, the Brazillian starlet destroyed her opponent, submitting Vertvixen to highlight her dominance on AEW Dark.
Winner: Tay Conti
Rating: 2.5/5
AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite
Riho vs Serena Deeb
This was a slow burner of a match, with both women working well to sell the overall narrative of the contest. Serena Deeb competed with a subtle heel edge, whilst Riho worked hard to sneak a victory over the supposedly much stronger performer in Deeb.
Deeb sold her knee injury well, which played into the finish as Riho was able to roll her up for the three count. Whilst not Deeb's best match in AEW, this was easily Riho's best match, and hopefully she can use this to build momentum for a shot at Hikaru Shida and the AEW Women's Championship.
Winner: Riho
Rating: 3.5/5
WWE NXT
Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell vs Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart
Despite being a decent contest, I feel this match suffered from the enhanced focus on Johnny Gargano. Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart continue to work well as a team, which resulted in Moon securing the pinfall victory via a rollup on Indi Hartwell. Not bad, but also not as good as it should have been.
Winner: Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart
Rating: 2.5/5
Aliyah & Jessi Kamea vs Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter
Whilst this match was rather dull, the post match angle between Xia Li and Kacy Catanzaro was highly intriguing. Li continues to be presented as an ass kicker, whilst it is clear that Catanzaro will be able to bump well to make Li look good.
Winner: Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter
Rating: 2/5
Valentina Feroz vs Zoey Stark
A solid squash victory for Zoey Stark, who decisively won the match by hitting a strong looking Go To Sleep variation. Stark looked good here, and I look forward to seeing more of her.
Winner: Zoey Stark
Rating: 2/5
WWE NXT UK
Dani Luna vs Aleah James
Honestly, this was pretty inoffensive. Dani Luna and Aleah James both put more effort into this match than their previous contests, but it still lacked fizzle.
Winner: Dani Luna
Rating: 2/5
WWE Friday Night SmackDown
The Riott Squad vs Tamina & Natalya
More bullshit involving the degradation of Billie Kay, whilst giving Tamina a victory. Awful. Insulting. Terrible.
Winner: Tamina & Natalya
Rating: 1/5
Sasha Banks, Bianca Belair & Reginald vs Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler & Bayley
Reginald's involvement here was frankly insulting to everyone involved. This match has no rating as it is not fair to rank a match that involves a male wrestler.
Winner: Sasha Banks, Bianca Belair & Reginald
Rating: No Rating
WWE Elimination Chamber 2021
Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler vs Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair
Despite not having any level of excitement for this match, I found myself enjoying this back and forth contest. A few botchy moves aside, it was great to see Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair team up, with the subtle tone of competition between the faces providing much enjoyment. The finish was awful, reminding me just how little I care for Reginald. Overall, this was not a bad match, whilst Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler retaining was the right decision.
Winner: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler
Rating: 3/5
MATCH OF THE WEEK:
Riho vs Serena Deeb
This was a fine match with multiple layers, resulting in one of the best women's matches in AEW for quite some time.
WOMAN OF THE WEEK:
Riho
Riho settled back into AEW this week, competing as if she had never been away. She looked strong, although much of that can be attributed to the brilliance of Serena Deeb.
