Cheap Pop & Cheap Heat of the Week in Wrestling #354

Posted by Ross K. Foad Sunday, February 14, 2021

Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?

CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:

GOOD BUNNY

I may have never heard of Bad Bunny before the Royal Rumble, nor is his music really for me, but, dammit, that is two times in a row that he has turned up for Raw following his Rumble performance, and I am not even sure that Brock Lesnar could claim that.

Secondly, his willingness to get involved physically, and actually seem engaged and interested, has actually endeared me to him. If we must have celebrities involvements from time to time, then this is far better than the many who treat it as little more than just another promotion obligation in the diary.

Honestly, I would not hate it if he does go ahead with the rumored match against The Miz and Morrison. He looks like he would actually try to learn, and, more than that, it would be miles better than the threatened Cardi B WrestleMania appearance....

CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:

HOW NOT TO PROVE A POINT

Well, here we go again. They were a staple of my 2020 heat columns, and, judging by this past week on Raw, this is not the year that will alter that.

I thought that I said all that there was to say about them, but, alas, WWE have found a way to continue to devolve the push of Mustafa Ali and RETRIBUTION

In theory, Mustafa Ali's holding a grudge for his 2019 Elimination Chamber spot being stolen by Kofi Kingston is a fantastic idea for a story. It is rooted in truth, as Kofi Mania may never have taken place were in not for Ali's injury, and, like all great heels, he is taking a piece of the truth and twisting it to justify his hatred and actions.

The only problem is, his so-called revenge is proving that Kofi deserved the spot.

So far, he has been beaten by Xavier Woods, and then his goons lost to The New Day.

So...what now? He challenges Kofi Kingston and wins? I guess that could happen, but because of everything that has led up to it, I would still leave thinking that Kofi had been the right choice all along.
