WWE Fastlane 2021 Results |
United States Championship Match: Matt Riddle (c) vs. Mustafa Ali
RESULT: Riddle retained the title by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: For the most part, this was just a repeat of what we saw a few days ago on Raw. It didn't need to be a two-time match. This should have just been one match at Fastlane, instead. Fine enough match, but it's just an empty repeat unless something happens afterward.
After the match, Reckoning and Slapjack left Ali. Mace and T-Bar double-chokedslammed him. Thankfully, something did happen after that match, then.
Women's Tag Team Championship Match: Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks
RESULT: Baszler and Jax retained their titles by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Waste. They did this at Elimination Chamber and all this managed to do was take more time up and have Banks slap Belair. Explain to me why that couldn't have been done weeks ago.
Intercontinental Championship Match: Big E (c) vs. Apollo Crews
RESULT: Big E retained the title by pinfall
THOUGHTS: What? That's the ending? That fast? That bland? You're not even going to end THIS feud? Even this is going to be just a setup for something else? This event is really struggling to justify its existence. Yikes.
Rik Bugez, calling himself Joseph Average, was advertising some Old Spice and wound up pinning R-Truth to win the 24/7 Championship. R-Truth then immediately won it back with a roll-up.
Elias is now replacing Shane McMahon.
Braun Strowman vs. Elias
RESULT: Braun Strowman won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Total waste of time. That's the theme of this event. This is the type of thing you book on Raw, not a pay-per-view, and certainly not a launch on a new streaming platform as the lead-in to the biggest show of the year.
Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
RESULT: Seth Rollins won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Simple, but better than anything we've seen so far.
No Holds Barred Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus
RESULT: Drew McIntyre won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Underwhelming. On this particular card, with so many downers, this was a highlight, but only by comparison. On its own, it wasn't a great No DQ match. These guys are capable of so much better.
Alexa Bliss vs. Randy Orton
RESULT: Alexa Bliss won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: This was a little better than I expected it would be, but sadly, still just the same basic layout that I anticipated, and since I'm not into this feud, a "slightly better than I thought" isn't going to make me suddenly switch 180 degrees from the past 5 months and be pumped about this feud. Too little, too late. But this particular segment was at least more entertaining than the women's tag title match and such from earlier in the night.
Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
RESULT: Roman Reigns retained the title by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Good enough main event, particularly for a dud show.
