WWE Extreme Rules 2021 Spoilers |
Universal Championship Extreme Rules Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Finn Balor
Stop giving away matches on television just to do a rematch of it at a pay-per-view! Stop doing rematches to begin with! Maybe WWE wouldn't have to do so much repetitive content if 1/3 of the roster wasn't fired and if people actually cared about what was being put on television each week. That's too much to ask for when a whole show like 205 Live doesn't even follow the 205 pound limit, nor is it live.
Fans are supposed to care about this match because Finn Balor has some face paint on. That's it. It took until after Monday Night Raw for WWE to even announce, on Twitter, mind, you, that this is a generic Extreme Rules match (ie, No DQ). News flash: Demon King Balor is the same as Finn Balor. He doesn't wrestle any differently or do anything to change up the game. It's no different than when John Cena's wearing a different color shirt or something, and I'm not Smithers gushing over Malibu Stacy's new hat.
WWE also has made it abundantly clear, if you didn't already know this, that Reigns will retain. The attention is on Brock Lesnar for Crown Jewel, followed by Big E in the champion versus champion setup for Survivor Series.
"But he's one of your indie darlings. Shut up and enjoy the match." - That type of mentality is the same as if people tell you grilled cheese and tomato soup is the same thing as pizza because it has the same basic ingredients. It's just an excuse to try to get you to stop disagreeing.
The match will be fine, if not good, but I'm not willing to give WWE a pass on this. We all need to stop letting them spend weeks phoning it in and then allow them to get away with "but the match will be okay, even if it's meaningless." This is far from the worst thing WWE's done even this month, but that doesn't make it something worth praising just because Balor and Reigns can wrestle. That's their job at a baseline.
PREDICTION: Roman Reigns retains.
SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Bianca Belair
Anything else wouldn't make sense. Of course, WWE sometimes does things that has zero logic to it, so there was always a chance this wouldn't be on the card, but despite those moments, you still have to hope they go with the most reasonable option. Thankfully, here, they have. Since The Man is heading toward a full-blown heel turn and she's a top priority and fresh, there's no way she loses the title here. She'll cheat or do something underhanded that will allow her to retain and make Belair more sympathetic by proxy, too.
PREDICTION: Becky Lynch retains.
United States Championship Triple Threat Match: Damian Priest (c) vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus
PREDICTION: Damian Priest retains.
Raw Women's Championship Match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Alexa Bliss
PREDICTION: Charlotte Flair retains.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) vs. The Street Profits
PREDICTION: The Usos retains.
Liv Morgan vs. Carmella
PREDICTION: Liv Morgan wins.
+ more matches TBA
PREDICTED MATCHES (as of 9/20/2021)
- Surely, Big E faces Bobby Lashley in a rematch for the WWE Championship, right?
- Shinsuke Nakamura will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Apollo Crews on SmackDown, so that takes that off this pay-per-view list.
This page will be altered on a regular basis to reflect changes to the show including any new matches added to the lineup, adjustments to the card, revised predictions and any other information about this event. Stay tuned for the latest updates!
