WWE Extreme Rules 2021 Results

During the kickoff, The New Day fought backstage with AJ Styles, Omos and Bobby Lashley, leading to an announcement that a six-man tag team match would take place on the card. Last-minute booking like this, with another non-gimmick match that you'd see on any episode of Raw. I don't understand how WWE thinks putting in less and less effort is going to help the company's perception and fan interest.

Liv Morgan vs. Carmella

RESULT: Liv Morgan won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: What was different from how this match would have gone down on SmackDown? This was as generic as hell. Nothing at all made this feel as if Morgan was trying to "make Carmella as ugly on the outside as she is on the inside" or anything of the sort.

Six-Man Tag Team Match: The New Day vs. AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley and Omos

RESULT: The New Day won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Again, tell me how this was anything better than what we could see on Raw. It was a fine enough match, but this is a pay-per-view. These are supposed to be "special" events. This wasn't special.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) vs. The Street Profits

RESULT: The Usos retain by pinfall
THOUGHTS: Good match, but not something worth going gaga over.

Raw Women's Championship Match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Alexa Bliss

RESULT: Charlotte Flair retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: The most interesting thing that happened was after the match where Flair ripped Lilly apart. How Bliss deals with that is more intriguing than anything that went down between the ropes.

United States Championship Triple Threat Match: Damian Priest (c) vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus

RESULT: Damian Priest retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Not extreme.

SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Bianca Belair

RESULT: Bianca Belair won by disqualification due to interference from Sasha Banks, so Becky Lynch retains.
THOUGHTS: WWE really likes to spread things thin these days. SummerSlam went down the way it did to set up weeks of television to set up Extreme Rules which was just meant to set up a Triple Threat match that will undoubtedly take place on SmackDown instead of Crown Jewel (but even then, it's just stretching this out another month). It's tiresome.

Universal Championship Extreme Rules Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Finn Balor

RESULT: Roman Reigns retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: While this was not enough to save a "one match card" as far as the Extreme Rules gimmick idea goes, this did have the most interesting element of the night on it. Having Balor get revived during the match with the red lights and the heartbeat stuff was a lot of fun and the first time I think I've ever felt as though the Demon King schtick was something special. Kudos for that upgrade. Reigns retained, as expected, and this was a good enough main event. I wish the rest of the show had matched or exceeded this segment.
