WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2021 Spoilers |
Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cesaro
I think it's great Cesaro's finally getting a push like this. Of course, the better scenario would have been a more solid push that wasn't rushed and isn't a guaranteed loss, but hey, it's a step up, right? One step at a time. It's far past the time he is contending for the world title. To think he's never had a one-on-one shot for either belt until now is crazy.
This match should be good and Cesaro will look like a million bucks, but lose.
PREDICTION: Roman Reigns retains.
WWE Championship Triple Threat Match: Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Braun Strowman vs. Drew McIntyre
Mace and T-Bar being involved in this feud was certainly not something I saw coming. Frankly, I didn't think they'd toss Braun Strowman into the mix quite this early, either. I assumed Strowman would be Lashley's challenger for Money in the Bank and possibly Extreme Rules. Of course, that could still happen, since WWE loves stretching things out as long as possible and copying/pasting matches. But hey, I'll give credit where it's due that the addition of The Monster Among Men stops this from being "just a rematch from WrestleMania" with McIntyre against Lashley in singles competition.
PREDICTION: Bobby Lashley retains.
SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley
PREDICTION: Bianca Belair retains.
Raw Women's Championship Triple Threat Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair
Here are the only options:
- Charlotte Flair wins the title by pinning or submitting Asuka.
- Charlotte Flair wins the title by pinning or submitting Rhea Ripley.
- Rhea Ripley retains the title by pinning Asuka, but absolutely not Flair.
I wouldn't put it past WWE to give the title to Flair and just be like "Well, we're telling a story here where Flair's the one person Ripley can't ever beat, and we'll eventually have her win ONE match, way past the point that it will matter, and there's a good chance we just don't end up doing that, either, and we'll say that plans changed and oh well. But for now, it's a bigger priority for us to just keep pushing the Flair thing, even though she is already a legend who doesn't need that constant protection."
I hope they do the right thing and Ripley retains without looking like Flair should have won, and then wins later down the line. Or, of course, that they don't just go with Flair. I want Ripley beating Flair, and not having to use Asuka as an excuse or something.
PREDICTION: Rhea Ripley retains.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: Dirty Dawgs (c) vs. Dominik Mysterio & Rey Mysterio
This shouldn't be the case. The Fatal 4-Way should have happened at WrestleMania in front of a crowd and the Mysterios should have won the titles then. Now, no matter what happens, it's a downer. Either they lose again or they win in front of nobody a month after they should have with even less momentum to carry their title reign forward. A little planning ahead would have solved so many problems and made things infinitely better. I hate how often that happens in WWE.
PREDICTION: New tag team champions are crowned.
Lumberjack Match: Damian Priest vs. The Miz
Lumberjack matches aren't typically the most exciting in the world, but they're something different. I'm glad they're doing this, rather than just another No DQ match with some fake new name. Also, just generally speaking, it's better to have a stipulation here since these two have been fighting for months and a regular singles match would have no enticement to it.
+ more matches TBA
PREDICTED MATCHES (as of 5/10/2021)
- Apollo Crews, Big E, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in a Fatal 4-Way for the Intercontinental Championship
- Maybe Mansoor gets a legit shot at the United States Championship.
