Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
UPSWING
Is WWE pushing Cesaro? Following his solid victory over Daniel Bryan, Cesaro resurfaced this week to not only laud this over the Yes Man, but also to savagely shoot down his Royal Rumble aspirations.
Now, Cesaro has always been an impressive physical specimen, but often overlooked for average mic work. However, there was something about his delivery here which came close to making him look far more of a total package.
His character felt closer to his original WWE debut persona, but with vastly improved confidence. We even got a nice throwback to his five languages boast of old!
Could he actually be on course to win the Royal Rumble? At the tail end of 2020 I would have easily said no, but now?
I cannot actually rule it out with complete confidence...
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?
Well, WWE is at it again.
Some wrestlers just are not allowed to have friends, are they?
The break up train was in full force on Raw again with three pairings looking likely to split at some point in the near future. Admittedly, some of these are more devastating than others, but too often we get partnerships that do not need to end, or are at least severed before their time.
I have previously written about my fear for the future of The Hurt Business after Cedric Alexander started getting too cocky, and nothing has happened since to dampen those concerns. The dissent continues, and whatever story comes from it is unlikely to be anywhere near the same level.
Meanwhile, a split between the recently returned Jaxson Ryker and Elias is also on the cards, and that one has barely got going. Yes, it has not set the world on fire, but there is surely more ground to explore here. What are the plans for either after the inevitable blow off match? Elias will be alright, but I do not fancy Ryker's chances.
Lastly, and this one is a little slower burning, but the team of Nia Jax’s and Shayna Bazler is also not long for this world. One will throw the other out of the Rumble, guaranteed, and that will be the end of that. I know that this leaves Bazler free to pursue some well-deserved single’s gold, but they had started to feel like a proper tag team, something the women's tag division is in dire need of...
