Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
WWE TITLE MATCH
This week did not give me a wide range of options for the WWE Pop choices, especially thanks to the lackluster Legend's Night, but Keith Lee vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE title would probably have been strong enough to stand out even in more positively stacked time.
This was a hard-hitting but fluid bout, with both men demonstrating their deceptive speed on top of bone crunching power. Moves came thick and fast, and even gave rise to the briefest moments of feeling that this was not a one-sided outcome and Keith could walk away the champion. Of course, I know WWE booking better than that, but there was enough in here to make me occasionally forget. Great bout aside, it having the legends standing at the entrance was a nice touch, and probably the best use of them all night.
The combination of Thunderdome viewers and little live crowd helped give this proper main event feels.
Shame about what happened next with Goldberg...
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
HURTING THE BUSINESS
The Hurt Business was one of the greatest things in wrestling last year, but, possibly because it has a tag team, WWE are now on a collision course to ruin it.Why? It started almost immediately after they won the Raw tag titles, with some obvious tension brewing between Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander. This was once a very cohesive tandem, but they already feel at odds, with Cedric's growing ego being a primary cause. Will Benjamin tire of the blind tags and loss causing ways?
I hope not, but if Cedric is becoming a liability, what are the odds that MVP will take him to side and merely offer some sage advise? At this rate, I will be very surprised if he is not excommunicated before WrestleMania comes around. What then for the Hurt Business? Could they carry on as a trio or recruit a new member? Or would all momentum be lost?
This is not what's best for business....
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
