AEW Fyter Fest 2021

NIGHT 1:

Coffin Match: Darby Allin vs. Ethan Page

I'm definitely excited to see this. There's a chance it's brutal and a lot of fun. I'm also cool with either guy winning, which makes it easier to look forward to it without worrying about one of the outcomes being disappointing.

The argument for Page winning is that it'd make him look so much better to take out Allin. However, this may be one of Allin's signature matches, since AEW hasn't done a casket match prior to this. If that's the case, it's better for him to win to establish that idea than to come up short. Then again, The Undertaker is synonymous with Hell in a Cell and he lost the first one, right?

PREDICTION: Darby Allin wins.

FTW Championship Match: Brian Cage (c) vs. Ricky Starks

This one really intrigues me. My gut says Starks comes out with the win because the rest of Team Taz turns on Cage and Powerhouse Hobbs, in particular, takes him out so Starks can get the victory. However, I could see a scenario where Cage retains it and they start telling a story of Taz wanting the belt back and commissioning others to try to win it.

I'll go with my initial thoughts, but if Cage retains, it wouldn't be the most shocking thing in the world to me, either.

PREDICTION: Ricky Starks wins.

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Karl Anderson

I don't follow New Japan Pro Wrestling enough to know where the momentum is. I'm assuming Moxley is coming into this the bigger deal and that Anderson's work with Impact Wrestling and AEW means he's not the priority for the company that they'd want to give the title to.

PREDICTION: Jon Moxley retains.

Christian Cage vs. Matt Hardy

To be honest, this does nothing for me. They've fought a million times and not only is it nothing super different anymore, but I haven't enjoyed any of Hardy's characters in AEW, so I'm just not feeling this feud, either. It feels like it's running on fumes, rather than some star powered major marquee thing. Both guys are great, but I'd rather see them against other people.

PREDICTION: Christian Cage wins.

Penelope Ford vs. Yuka Sakazaki

My guess is this is being done to reintroduce Sakazaki so she can be a future challenger to Baker. As such, she beats Ford and starts racking up wins and getting higher on the rankings.

PREDICTION: Yuka Sakazaki wins.

NIGHT 2:

AEW Women's World Championship Match: Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. (c) vs. Nyla Rose

No way Baker loses the title this fast and to Rose of all people just to revert back to her previous title reign. I think this is a matter of Rose being one of the only women around who feels like a big deal who Baker hasn't had a title defense or serious match against yet, so it's more about giving Baker a quote-unquote "big victory" than anything else. She'd be beating a former champion, after all.

PREDICTION: Britt Baker retains.

IWGP United States Championship Texas Death Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Lance Archer

I'll repeat what I said with Karl Anderson. I can't imagine New Japan wants Moxley to drop that title, nor do I think they want him to drop that title on a promotion that isn't theirs. This is more than likely a means to do a brutal bloody match in front of the live crowd to make Fyter Fest Night 2 seem more epic rather than anything else. I'll be shocked (but not as shocked as the exploding barbed wire death match...or, I guess, maybe more shocked) if the title changes hands.

PREDICTION: Jon Moxley retains.

Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Spears

Spears can use a chair. Jericho cannot. But this is "The 5 Labours of Jericho: Chapter 1" so of course, Jericho is going to find a way to come out victorious.

PREDICTION: Chris Jericho wins.

Orange Cassidy vs. The Blade

This is still going on?

PREDICTION: Orange Cassidy wins.

+ more TBA
