Women's Wrestling Weekly Recap & Review #311

Posted by Dallas Allsopp Monday, December 28, 2020

Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE and AEW programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.

WWE Monday Night Raw

Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke vs Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

This match was just all kinds of wrong. Despite following an admittedly solid promo from Charlotte Flair, this match just had no fire to it whatsoever. Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose were rough in their execution, as too was Nia Jax. Shayna Baszler tried hard, but she couldn’t save this car crash of a contest.

Baszler was able to lock the Kirifuda Clutch on Brooke for the submission victory, but overall, this was extremely poor.

Winner: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

Rating: 2/5

Asuka & Charlotte Flair vs Lacey Evans & Peyton Royce

Asuka and Charlotte Flair worked well, but even they couldn’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit. Peyton Royce and Lacey Evans tried hard, but they could not bring the show to the Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Flair submitted Royce to the Figure Eight, but no-one really won here.

Winner: Asuka & Charlotte Flair

Rating: 2/5

Impact Wrestling

This week was a 'Best of 2020' show, which included the amazing 30 Minute Ironman match between Deonna Purrazzo and Jordynne Grace from August.

AEW Dark

Nyla Rose vs Tesha Price

This was a simple squash designed to keep Nyla Rose over with the fans. For what it was, it was entertaining.

Winner: Nyla Rose

Rating: 2/5

Kilynn King vs Alex Gracia

This wasn’t a bad offering, purely because Alex Gracia securing the surprise win was a nice change of pace. Despite only being given a few minutes, both women did well with the time they had.

Winner: Alex Gracia

Rating: 2/5

Thunder Rosa vs Jazmin Allure

Once again, Thunder Rosa showed why she is one of the finest women’s wrestlers in the industry. Jazmin Allure was making her AEW debut, putting in a credible showing for the small time she was in the ring.

Rosa easily won the match with a Fire Thunder Driver for the pinfall victory. Pretty much everything this woman does is pure gold.

Winner: Thunder Rosa

Rating: 2.5/5

Vertvixen vs Red Velvet

Vertvixen made her AEW debut this week, but Red Velvet never looked like losing. Once again, the match wasn’t given enough time to come across as truly compelling, but at least Velvet scored the deserved victory.

Winner: Red Velvet

Rating: 2/5

Madi Wrenkowski vs Leyla Hirsch

This was Madi Wrenkowski's AEW debut, however there was no stopping Leyla Hirsch, who made Wrenkowski submit with ease. Overall, this was fun.

Winner: Leyla Hirsch

Rating: 2.5/5

AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite

Hikaru Shida vs Alexa Gracia

This was an awful match, however it was saved by the post match attack by Abadon on Hikaru Shida. Seriously, Shida should be given better matchups than this.

Winner: Hikaru Shida

Rating: 1.5/5

WWE NXT

Rhea Ripley vs Dakota Kai

I have a lot of time for these two women, and once again they showed the rest of NXT’s women’s division how to perform at the top of their game.

Dakota Kai looked strong in defeat, and I hope she is able to support Raquel Gonzalez with a tilt at the NXT Women’s Championship, should she not be able to challenge herself.

Rhea Ripley won with a Riptide, securing the win in the best match of the night.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

Rating: 3.5/5

WWE NXT UK

There were no women's matches this week, but here's a holiday message from Jinny.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown

Asuka & Charlotte Flair vs Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair vs Bayley & Carmella

All three teams worked hard in this contest, and although Bianca Belair ultimately lost the match, she looked strong in defeat. Once again, Asuka and Charlotte Flair looked strong as a unit, and overall, this was a fairly entertaining contest.

Winner: Asuka & Charlotte Flair

Rating: 3/5

WWE Main Event

Nikki Cross vs RECKONING

Dull. Boring. Unimaginative. All words that can describe this match. Here's hoping Mia Yim can break off from RETRIBUTION to show the WWE universe what she is capable of.

Winner: RECKONING

Rating: 2/5

MATCH OF THE WEEK:

Rhea Ripley vs Dakota Kai

This was a fabulous match to highlight just how talented both women are.

WOMAN OF THE WEEK:

Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair followed up her return at TLC with two victories this week, proving she hasn't lost a step in the ring.
