Women's Wrestling Weekly Recap & Review #307

Posted by Dallas Allsopp Tuesday, December 1, 2020
Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.

WWE Monday Night Raw

Asuka vs Lana

This was a nothing match, only being used as a vehicle to get to Asuka and Lana vs Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. One to avoid.

Winner: Asuka (via DQ)
Rating: 1/5

Asuka & Lana vs Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

Despite being pushed hard on the show, this was a shocking encounter. Lana still has no right being pushed as heavily as she is, with Asuka losing a bit of credibility as a result.

Asuka almost single handedly won the match for her team, pinning the Women’s Tag Team Champions to send a statement that she is still the pinnacle of Raw’s women’s division.

Overall, this was a disappointing match.

Winner: Asuka & Lana
Rating: 2/5

Alexa Bliss vs Nikki Cross

From an in ring perspective, this was not much of a match, however it was highly entertaining from a storyline perspective. Alexa Bliss manipulated Nikki Cross into accepting a hug, pretending she was ready to break free from the control of The Fiend. This was just a ruse though, as she hit a Modified Sister Abigail for the pinfall victory. Solid storytelling, with the match coming across as ok.

Winner: Alexa Bliss
Rating: 2.5/5

WWE SmackDown

Bianca Belair vs Natalya

Again, this was a contest that was less about the actual matchup itself, but rather serving as the start of Bianca Belair’s first real feud on SmackDown.

Natalya worked hard to match Belair, but the EST of WWE was not to be beaten, securing a pintail victory with a roll up.

Whilst not a bad match, this didn’t scream excitement.

Winner: Bianca Belair
Rating: 2/5

WWE NXT

Ember Moon vs Candice LeRae

This was a fun match, with both women working hard to put on a contest that could stand up to the recent string of amazing efforts from NXT’s women’s division.

Ember Moon looked good, however it was Candice LeRae who continued to look like a star, bagging the win with a Wicked Stepsister.

This was certainly a great effort from both women, but the heel turn from Toni Storm after the match reduced the overall impact of LeRae’s victory.

Winner: Candice LeRae
Rating: 3/5

WWE NXT UK

Jinny vs Isla Dawn

NXT UK finally delivered a decent women’s match this week, with Jinny looking like a true threat to Kay Lee Ray’s NXT UK Women’s Championship.

Isla Dawn attempted to make her mark on the contest, but Jinny maintained a strong presence throughout. Dawn almost matched her for aggression, but she fell to a Modified STF and tapped out.

If Jinny continues to elevate her opponents, she more than deserves the opportunity to dethrone Ray.

Winner: Jinny
Rating: 3/5

AEW Dynamite

Hikaru Shida vs Anna Jay

This was better than their previous encounter, but at no point did it look like Anna Jay was capable of defeating Hikaru Shida. This certainly detracted from the contest, although it was as entertaining as ever to see Shida end the match with a stiff Running Knee.

Abadon came out post match to scare the shit out of Shida. Honestly, I’m intrigued to see where this direction takes the AEW Women’s Championship.

Winner: Hikaru Shida
Rating: 2.5/5

Impact Wrestling

Tasha Steelz & Kiera Hogan vs Sea Stars

This was part of the Knockout’s Tag Team Championship tournament, but it was extremely underwhelming.

Tasha Steelz and Kiera Hogan never once looked in trouble, therefore their victory came across as a damp squib. A Swinging Neckbreaker from Hogan was enough for the pinfall victory, but this just did not look good.

Winner: Tasha Steelz & Kiera Hogan
Rating: 2/5

Kimber Lee vs Killer Kelly

Time was not afforded to this match, which is a shame as both women could have undoubtedly done much better with a longer timeframe. Kimber Lee was victorious with a Swanton Bomb, but the journey to get to the victory was rather unexciting.

Winner: Kimber Lee
Rating: 2/5

MATCH OF THE WEEK:
Jinny vs Isla Dawn

This was a return to form for NXT UK's women's division, with Jinny proving she is more than capable of dethroning Kay Lee Ray for the NXT UK Women's Championship.

WOMAN OF THE WEEK:
Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss continues to go from strength to strength, excelling in the ring as well as on the microphone. She truly has been revitalised by her character change.

So there you have it, the breakdown for the week in women's wrestling. What were some of your favorite and least favorite moments from these women? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
