Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
I REMEMBER YOU
It might be hard to remember now, but the intention was to have The Forgotten Sons as a big deal in the SmackDown tag division. That is, until their leader made some poorly timed tweets of a somewhat sensitive nature, and proceeded to upset fans and wrestlers alike.
Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler made it clear that Jaxson Ryker's thoughts were not endorsed by them, but they ended up suffering all the same, with all three men getting a swift removal from WWE television.
Thankfully, their time in purgatory came to an end on SmackDown, with the pair returning as bodyguards, or at least associates, to King Corbin.
The hoody and suit combo was a little strange, but it did make me think of them as executioners, a role that would fit nicely into a King's court stable.
Is that the way this is going? I hope so. It could be a great way to add something extra to the King Corbin character. Plus, do not forgot how much WWE loves him. Any team linked to him would be guaranteed some decent screen time.
They are owed that much.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
NOT THE UNDERDOG STORY WE NEED
I am not sure that I like where this Lana story is going.
The tag champs have been looking a bit like a chump as of late, and I can just feel the hour-glass of their title reign ticking away. Come TLC, I have a feeling that Lana will be the one putting Nia Jax through a table and taking the tag belts with Asuka.
But where do we go from there?
I know that Lana is trying to improve all the time, but she has been on the roster for a few years now, and her being the worst on the roster is literally woven into the fabric of this story. I hate to say this, but her matches are not great, and this is not the underdog story that WWE thinks it is.
Daniel Bryan was an underdog because management did not see him for what he was worth. It was never about him getting lucky or having no confidence. That sort of thing is fine for the Hornswoggles and James Ellsworths of this world, but it will not make Lana a credible contender.
If I had to look for a positive? Well, at least Asuka will be entertaining as a double champion...
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
