The third annual Smark Out Moment 2020 CHAMPSGIVING tournament has come to a close and it's time to reveal who won and recap how the bracket played out.
This tournament asked the question "Which WWE Superstar who never won either the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship or Universal Championship do you most wish would have been a world champion?"
It was comprised of wrestlers who had been determined through our Facebook group, some discussion during a Darkcast episode on Patreon and your qualifying round votes.
After those rounds, the final came down to Wade Barrett against Owen Hart. Now that the results are in, we have a victor. With a score of 32 (51.6%) to 30 (48.4%), WADE BARRETT has been declared your winner.
Check out the full bracket (direct link) along with some statistics and analysis below:
CLOSEST CALL
The final was actually the closest with only 2 votes separating Owen Hart from being able to beat Wade Barrett.BIGGEST LANDSLIDE VICTORY
Owen Hart destroyed Bam Bam Bigelow in Round 1 with 91.7% of the vote (66 to 6).
BIGGEST SHOCKERS
To me at least, I was surprised at how much of a bias there was toward more recent superstars, with Mr. Kennedy and Matt Hardy making it past the qualifying round rather than guys like Ravishing Rick Rude and Lex Luger (I also voted for Jeff Jarrett and not Sting/Cody Rhodes, but I get that).
Barrett beating Ted DiBiase and going on to beat Mr. Perfect and such was a shocker, for sure.
IDEAS FOR THE NEXT TOURNAMENT
Last year, we established with your votes that people just do not want to vote based solely on someone's championship reign and they tend to vote on that wrestler's entire career. That has made it a moot point to do tournaments like Best X Champion Ever, because it won't matter if that person held the title for 1 day or 1 year, since their overall popularity will just dictate their votes.
This year was a change of pace for something different and I think it worked a little better. With that in mind, I'd like to do something more along these lines for the 2021 tournament.
Some ideas I'm floating around are the following, so let me know which one of these (or any other ideas you might have) sound the most appealing:
1. Ranking title belt designs. For instance, your favorite of the WWE Championship belts.
2. Best Triple Crown or Grand Slam Champions.
3. Oddball championship ideas. Which is the best championship concept for things like the 24/7 title, hardcore title, TV title, cruiserweight title, trios titles, Impact Grand Championship and so on.
4. Best to never win the tag titles.
Our analysis on the outcome of the finals and the 2020 edition of the tournament as a whole can be found in the latest Smack Talk podcast:
