Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?
CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
FIGHTING WITH MY FAMILY
The ending to the Dominik Mysterio and Murphy street fight on Raw was stupendous, and I could not but help grin like an idiot the whole way through. Having the entire family take part was masterful, and so much more impactful, literally and metaphorically, to have Angie and Aalyah involved.
The street fight itself was also a really fun watch, with Dominik’s dive off the monitors and sunset flip table bomb going a long way to prove that this is not a young man coasting off his father’s name and fame.
Did Daddy Mysterio’s influence help get Dominik through the door? Undoubtedly, but, getting there and staying there are very different things, and, if this match is anything to go by, there is no question over whether Dominik has what it takes.
Of course, every wrestling match takes at least two to make it work, and Murphy should be commended for his part in this too, and, if this is end of his disciple role, I hope that WWE has something decent for him to parlay into next. He deserves it.
Well, when he can actually move again that is…
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
FATAL FOUR WHY?
I presume that WWE wants to hold off on Sasha Banks vs. Bayley so that they can have it at a bigger event such as Hell in a Cell or Survivor Series, but it does present the age-old problem of who does she face before that? Well, SmackDown's Fatal Four Way match already solved that dilemma, but was it the ideal outcome?
I like Nikki Cross a lot, but as the next competitor for Bayley? This was a match that happened just three months prior, and, given that we are ninety-nine percent sure that the victor will be Bayley, her next title bout could have at least been against someone she has yet to defend against, or, even a multi-woman match, which at least would have made us only ninety-seven percent sure of her victory.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
