- Vince McMahon is on SmackDown tonight. He tells Adam Pearce that he requires the signature of Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and The Fiend for their match at Payback.
- Jeff Hardy comes out and says he is ready to defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship, only for AJ Styles to come out and call Hardy a liar and a cheat. Hardy takes out an enraged Styles as we go to commercial.
- Shinsuke Nakamura answers Jeff Hardy's open challenge, whilst AJ Styles joins commentary.
- Jeff Hardy defeated Shinsuke Nakamura by pinfall to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
- Sami Zayn returns to WWE and confronts Jeff Hardy with his own WWE Intercontinental Championship. He attacks Hardy with the belt as AJ Styles watches on. Once we return from commercial, Kayla Braxton interviews Zayn who says he has returned to right the wrongs of having the title taken from him.
- Bray Wyatt opens up the Firefly Fun House and says something is missing. He reveals the WWE Universal Championship and says no-one will take it away this time. Adam Pearce arrives dressed as a postman to ask for his signature for his match at Payback, but Wyatt warns Pearce that he hopes Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman know what they are getting themselves into as he just signed a couple of death warrants.
- Matt Riddle comes to the ring to address King Corbin. He says it seems like he is scared of him, and demands he comes out now to prove a point. Corbin comes out after a series of insults from The Original Bro, however Shorty G attacks Riddle from behind.
- Matt Riddle defeated Shorty G by pinfall.
- King Corbin attempts to attack Matt Riddle, but Riddle is able to clear the ring of Corbin.
- Big E shares some meat with Heavy Machinery backstage. Bayley and Sasha Banks come over and taunt Big E before heading towards the ring.
- Adam Pearce knocks on the dressing room door of Roman Reigns, but he doesn't answer.
- King Corbin tells Kayla Braxton he is going to beat Matt Riddle at Payback and send him back to NXT.
- Bayley and Sasha Banks come to the ring. Bayley states it has been a difficult week for the pair, with Bayley apologising for causing Banks to lose the Raw Women's Championship. Bayley even highlights how Banks has historically been unable to successfully defend the title. Bayley adds they cannot lose on Sunday, which Banks agrees with. She knows exactly who she is and what she stands for. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler appear on the titantron to say the Women's Tag Team Champions haven't spoken about winning which fires up Banks to say they will indeed be victorious at Payback.
- Adam Pearce is looking for Braun Strowman backstage. Strowman says he won't sign the contract unless he gets Drew Gulak in the ring right now after being hit by a steel chair.
- Sami Zayn reunites with Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura, but Nakamura is annoyed he didn't even get a call in 4 months. Zayn notes it was to give the pair some space, but Cesaro asks Zayn to leave so he can resume his conversation with Nakamura.
- Braun Strowman defeated Drew Gulak by pinfall.
- Braun Strowman signs the contract on the entrance ramp.
- Kalisto asks Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado to stay backstage and watch how it is done. After he leaves, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura take Metalik and Dorado out.
- Cesaro defeated Kalisto by pinfall.
- Lucha House Party bicker post match.
- Adam Pearce explains to Vince McMahon he has 2 out of 3 signatures. McMahon advises Pearce to knock down Roman Reigns' door.
- Alexa Bliss hugs Tamina and Nikki Cross backstage. Bliss has the Harley Quinn style hair from her heel days, which Cross questions. Bliss tells Cross to stop being ridiculous and smashes her mug on the floor.
- Sheamus, John Morrison and The Miz discuss their gameplay for their upcoming match.
- Roman Reigns tells Adam Pearce he will need to look over the contract before signing it.
- Heavy Machinery & Big E defeated Sheamus, John Morrison & The Miz by pinfall.
- Roman Reigns signs the contract and notes he will win the WWE Universal Championship at Payback. That is not a prediction, but a spoiler. The camera pans over to Paul Heyman as it appears he is now managing Reigns, with the show going off the air as Heyman smiles devilishly.
