The results from the round 5 finals are in, and with a score of 79 (50.3%) to 78 (49.7%), ALEXA BLISS has defeated Sasha Banks to become this year's winner for an unprecedented THIRD time! That was extremely close at the wire (as close as it could get), but Bliss was winning by at least 20 votes or so all the way up until the final stretch, when Banks got a random surge that was just the slightest bit too short of overtaking the lead.
Check out the bracket below to see how the tournament went down in its entirety and just how Alexa Bliss carved out a path to victory. Was it a matter of true fan support or did the seeding play a big factor?
BREAKDOWN AND ANALYSIS:
ALTERNATIVE FINALS
Just for curiosity's sake, it was asked how you would have voted if the semifinals had gone the opposite direction with the losers advancing into the finals instead of our two true finalists, which would have made the finals Liv Morgan vs. Scarlett Bordeaux instead. In that scenario, who would have been voted the winner?
Your votes were 76 (53.1%) to 67 (46.9%) in favor of Liv Morgan, who was losing all the way along the vote until the very end when there was a random surge for Morgan, which means she effectively wins the bronze medal for getting third place in this year's tournament.
BEST BODY VOTE
Third place went to Scarlett with 19 votes.
Second place went to Alexa Bliss with 29 votes.
Your first place winner for this category was Sasha Banks with 39 votes.
Last year, Bliss was #2 and Banks was #1 as well.
BEST FACE VOTE
Third place went to Liv Morgan with 11 votes.
Second place went to Sasha Banks with 28 votes.
Your first place winner for this category was Alexa Bliss with 51 votes ,winning this category for the fourth year in a row.
This is the same exact setup as last year in the 2019 tournament.
BEST PERSONALITY
Third place went to Becky Lynch with 10 votes.
Second place went to Alexa Bliss with 31 votes.
Your first place winner for this category was Sasha Banks with 38 votes.
This is the same lineup as last year.
CLOSEST CALL
In round 1, there were two matches that had the same voter breakdown. Io Shirai beat Dakota Kai and Paige beat Tegan Nox both with 50.8% of the votes (66 to 64).
BIGGEST LANDSLIDE VICTORY
The biggest blowout for the women's bracket was in round 1 with Sasha Banks beating her best friend Bayley with a score of 114 to 17 (87% of the vote).
BIGGEST SHOCKERS
From my point of view, I'm surprised at a few things:
- I'm surprised Santana Garrett and Vanessa Borne didn't make it into the top 32. I'm also a bit surprised Xia Brookside didn't, as she had placed into the bracket last year and I figured people would vote that way again time time, even if I didn't have her on my personal 32 I thought would get the most votes.
Our analysis on the outcome of the finals and the 2020 edition of the tournament as a whole can be found in the latest Patreon-exclusive Darkcast podcast.
Big thanks to everyone who participated in the voting from the qualifying round all the way up until the end, as well as those who shared this on Facebook, Twitter, or elsewhere to draw more attention to it and to get more people involved.
