The results from the round 5 finals are in. With a score of 47 (56%) to 37 (44%), FINN BALOR has defeated Drew McIntyre to become this year's winner for the third time, having previously won in 2017 and 2019!
Check out the bracket below to see how the tournament went down in its entirety and just how he carved out a path to victory, as well as a breakdown of some more votes along the way.
BREAKDOWN AND ANALYSIS:
ALTERNATIVE FINALS
Just for curiosity's sake, it was asked how you would have voted if the semifinals had gone the opposite direction with the losers advancing into the finals instead of our two true finalists, which would have made the finals some variation of Angel Garza vs. John Morrison vs. Tyler Breeze (as there was a tie heading into the semifinals) instead. In that scenario, who would have been voted the winner?
Your votes were 40 (52.6%) to 26 (34.2% for Garza) to 10 (13.2% for Breeze) in favor of John Morrison, which means he effectively wins the bronze medal for getting third place in this year's tournament. For my money's worth, I think Morrison should have been the winner of the whole tournament, so I'm glad to see he at least got the tertiary prize.
BEST BODY VOTE
Third place went to a two-way tie between Dominik Dijakovic and Drew McIntyre with 8 votes.
Second place went to John Morrison with 9 votes.
Your first place winner for this category was Finn Balor with 14 votes, winning this for the fourth year in a row.
BEST FACE VOTE
Third place went to a four-way tie of Adam Cole, Austin Theory, Fandango and John Morrison all with 6 votes.
Second place went to Dolph Ziggler with 8 votes.
Your first place winner for this category was Finn Balor with 9 votes, who was #3 last year.
BEST PERSONALITY
Third place went to Adam Cole with 7 votes.
Second place went to both AJ Styles and Finn Balor tied at 8 votes.
Your first place winner for this category was Velveteen Dream with 9 votes.
CLOSEST CALL
This year had several deadlocked ties that, despite me keeping the poll open an extra day or so to establish a clear winner, refused to budge. Therefore, I had to carry on with a Triple Threat scenario, advancing both men.
This happened in Round 2 with Seth Rollins vs. Johnny Gargano as well as Drew McIntyre vs. Fandango. Then, again in Round 3 with Drew McIntyre and Angel Garza beating Fandango.
BIGGEST LANDSLIDE VICTORY
The biggest blowout for the men's bracket was in round 1 when Drew McIntyre defeated Elias by a score of 86 to 9 (90.5% of the vote).
BIGGEST SHOCKERS
From my point of view, I'm surprised at a few things:
- I'm surprised Jeff Hardy didn't make it into the 32.
- I was also shocked Roderick Strong took down Roman Reigns in the first round, followed by beating Andrade in Round 2. Impressive.
