CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
GOOD FRIENDS GOOD ENEMIES
WWE very rarely touches baby face vs. baby face stories, and, when it does, they are often of little substance. While one could argue that The Viking Raiders & Street Profits angle falls into this category, with the only real plot being the anything you can do we can do better motif, I am enjoying it all the same. The recent match on Raw was excellent, and I think it was enhanced by the groundwork that they had done with the sketches.
They were different, the visual presentations varied, and I found a lot of them funny. I accept that the cinematic fight was not for everyone, but, as part of the overall package, I would argue that the character building it has given to all four men has been worth it. The Street Profits were always entertaining, but this just helped emphasize it, and The Viking Raiders have been able to display a comedic side that I was unaware they possessed.
If this was just a series of matches, it would barely be a footnote in wrestling history, but this feels way more noteworthy than when The Viking Raider were the tag champions, and certainly more memorable
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
TESTING TIMES
TESTING TIMES
Last week I spoke about how lucky WWE had been to have had such a low infection rate, especially considering that they had started allowing friend’s and families of wrestlers into tapings, and previously forbid anyone from wearing a face mask on camera.
Well, it turns out that they were not as lucky as I thought. We have since learnt that at least two dozen stars have contracted it, and only now have WWE actually brought in actual testing.
Excuse me?
Indeed, It turns out that WWE were only doing temperature tests, and had not actually done any proper testing. How can that be? Their wrestlers are risking their lives to continue working, and WWE could not even offer them the “perk” of knowing whether the person putting them in a headlock had the virus.
I love you WWE, but you sure do make it very hard sometimes. Thankfully, they are doing marginally better now, but it is ridiculous that it took a mini internal outbreak to get them to invest the time and money for proper safety procedures.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
