WWE Title Change: Intercontinental Championship Declared Vacant

Posted by Anthony Mango Wednesday, May 13, 2020
As of May 13, 2020, the WWE Intercontinental Championship has been declared vacant. Sami Zayn chose not to compete during the pandemic, it seems, so WWE has ruled that he has vacated the title and will start a tournament to crown a new champion on this week's episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

My immediate reaction: Well here's what, the fourth or fifth "should've just done it at WrestleMania instead of trying to stretch things out in a situation of unknowns" situation, right? It sucks that Zayn isn't going to properly drop the title, but I'm glad WWE isn't just letting it sit there and do nothing for however long it would take until he would show up again. I don't entirely disagree with his choosing not to wrestle, either, for that matter. But we need an intercontinental champion. Here's hoping whoever WWE picks will be a good decision. I'm hoping it's either Sheamus or Daniel Bryan, with the off-chance Drew Gulak or Jeff Hardy wins it.
