CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
EMPRESS OF THE EMPTY ARENA
It is official.
We have two MVPs in WWE. The literal one, Montel Vontavious Porter, and Asuka, the Empress of the empty arena era, and your new WWE Raw Women's champion.
A lot of people have stepped up to the plate and shone in these weird times, but few have shone brighter than Asuka. Crowd or no crowd, no environment feels stifled when Asuka is about, and I am so glad that WWE have rewarded her for it.
Supposedly, and I think that it does show in her face, Asuka had no idea that she was going to get the title or that Becky was pregnant. It was such a joyful moment to see the shock in her face when she realised, and, if true, good on WWE for doing this as a surprise. It shows that they must trust her to deliver on the fly, and I do not think that she will ever disappoint.
Trust aside, it also means that Asuka is the first women to truly win it all in WWE, and who would have ever thought that they would bestow that upon someone not named Flair? Or, at least a Horsewoman?
Congratulations, Asuka. You deserve it.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
FAMILY FEUD
FAMILY FEUD
A few weeks ago, I was praising the idea of The Vega Family, and what great work Zelina was doing managing Andrade, Angel Garza, and Austin Theory. Naturally, within one week of me writing that article, WWE began to tease dissention. Furious that he lost a six-man tag match, Zelina consoled him by blaming Austin and Angel, and that they were the weak part of the equation.
Sadly, the cracks have continued, and it is surely only a matter of time before we get Zelina’s boys in a triple threat match for the United States title. That is, if they do not somehow cost Andrade the belt before we get even there.
On one hand, it makes sense that Zelina is most faithful to Andrade, as they have been a package deal for some time, but, on the other, it does not make sense for any of this to happen in the first place.
This was a stable with so much potential, and I doubt that it is happening because WWE have some amazing imminent ideas for them all as single stars. Between the Latino connection and dirty tactics, there was a flavour of Eddie Guerrero to the team, and it feels a shame to lose it so soon.
Of course, this is speaking as if a split has already happened. It has not. So, there is technically still a sliver of hope that things get patched up before it is too late.
I know that is incredibly optimistic, but on the topic of Latino stars, at least we can say that there is more chance of it happening than an Alberto Del Rio return…..
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
