CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
[A CAREER REVIVAL]
[A CAREER REVIVAL]
This past week saw The Revival finally released from WWE. While I was not their greatest fan, I am pleased for them. For nobody should be miserable in their work, and it was so clear that they were just that. In fact, the pair were making grumblings mere months into their main roster call-up, and it is not too hard to see why.
While they were great fit for NXT, the more comedic and story focused Raw and SmackDown never quite meshed with what they had to offer. Or, when they did find something that worked, such as being Shane McMahon's lackeys or Randy Orton's buddies, WWE never stayed the course.
Indeed, a proposal from Randy Orton to work with them more as new Legacy type group was promptly shot down. Why? WWE wanted to keep hold of them, and offered them generous contracts and tag title runs, but did not think to let them do something that they were enthusiastic for? Instead, they chose to demoralize them further with such plot lines as the infamous butt scooching angle.
Baffling.
Still, they finally got what they wanted, and I am sure that they will be much happier when AEW inevitably come calling.
Enjoy yourself boys.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
[LASHLEY LASHES OUT]
I am glad that we ripped apart the merchandise machine that was Rusev Day so that Bobby Lashley could have a long lasting story line marriage to Lana.
Oh, wait.
WrestleMania saw the wheels of the Lana/Lashley romance start to fall off after Lana's instructions to Lashley ended up costing him his match. The next night on Raw, when asked about it in interview, Lashley bizarrely replied that he might need to get a new wife.
Yep, just like that.
Yes, it was a WrestleMania match, but, in the grand scheme of things, hardly comparable to AJ Lee causing Daniel Bryan's eight second loss to Sheamus. Was there really nowhere else to go before starting the break up? After all, they spent months and months getting us here .
While they were unlikely to be a career screen couple, I thought that there was more mileage to it than this. Where do we even go from here once the inevitable split occurs? Lana back with Rusev? Lashley back to…his sisters? Would it not make Rusev look stupid if he does take her back? Of course, we would forgive him, as he can do no wrong, but what a waste of talent's time.
