CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
BULLDOG HOF BOUND?
Strong rumours emerged this past week that The British Bulldog might be heading to the Hall of Fame. I sincerely hope that this is true, as there are few that feel as overdue as this one.
One half of one of the most respected tag teams of the 80s, the first WWE European champion, and one of the earliest examples of what a Brit could bring to mainstream American wrestling on TV. This man deserves it.
Yes, he had his demons and drug problems, and was not all that on the microphone, but it cannot be overstated how much of a hero he was for British wrestling fans back in the early 90s. With British wrestling being as strong as it is, the introduction of NXT UK, and Drew McIntyre main eventing WrestleMania, I cannot think of a more fitting hall of a famer for this year.
Obviously, this is not 100 percent confirmed, but the fact that Harry Smith has been seen backstage at events does bode well for any such induction. Also, could it lead to Smith coming back? Baby Bulldog may not have had too much impact first time around in the Hart Dynasty, but, thanks to some serious hard work in Japan, his reputation and skill set has soared in his near decade absence.
I, for one, would love to see that.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
A LAGGING TAG DIVISION
The Kabuki Warriors are an excellent team, but what a shame that WWE seem so reluctant to do anything to showcase it.
Yes, they are the longest reigning champions to date, but let us not forget that you can count the number of title defences on one hand. Of course, some of this was, to a certain extent, out of WWE’s hands following Kairi’s injury at TLC, but the defences were not exactly plentiful prior. Also, Kairi is big in action now, yet mostly used as an aide for Asuka's single feuds.
WWE made a big noise when they brought these new iterations of the belts back, but have not been so great at following up past this.
While I love that WWE suddenly remembered how good Asuka was and put her back in the Women’s Championship picture, her simultaneously being tag champ seems a tad by the by at this point. I am all for Asuka two belts! But, should that not happen, the tag belts need to become her focus once more. Admittedly, the amount of teams on the main roster is thin on the ground, but let us not forget that the titles are tri-branded. Is it not time to deliver on the promise of having the champs pop up to defend on NXT or NXT UK? There is so much potential for some devastating duos just waiting in the wings right there.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
