NXT Championship Backlot Brawl Match: Adam Cole (c) vs. Velveteen Dream

If Velveteen Dream loses, he won't get another shot at the title. This match is also going to take place at a different setting in some sort of cinematic match, it seems, and is dubbed a Backlot Brawl. Supposedly, that's a ring surrounded by cars. Oof. Right now, I'm 50/50 on this. Is Adam Cole's contract coming up? Is he or Dream moving up to Raw or SmackDown? Is Keith Lee or Johnny Gargano going to be North American champion by the end of the night? I think if Lee drops his title, there's a chance Cole keeps this so Lee can beat Cole. If Lee stays champion, we could still see Cole retain, but we have a higher chance of Dream winning the belt. The match itself could be...well...interesting, at least, even though I think this gimmick doesn't fit them at all.

PREDICTION: Velveteen Dream may just win the title here as Cole's contract is coming up.

Karrion Kross vs. Tommaso Ciampa

Kross is being treated like a big deal and he attacked Ciampa, who is done with his Gargano feud and will undoubtedly want revenge. This made perfect sense to book for this card. If they didn't do this match, it would have felt awkward, as if they were trying to stretch this out and avoid doing it too soon.

I haven't seen enough of Kross to know what he's got in the ring. However, since he's a relative unknown to me, I'm excited to see what he can do in a real match, rather than a squash. I also trust Ciampa to pull some great stuff out of him.

Kross wins this, for sure. He's the new guy who has everything to gain.

PREDICTION: Karrion Kross wins.

NXT Women's Championship Triple Threat Match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Io Shirai

Good lord. Give Ripley her title back. Flair never should have won it in the first place and it has done ZERO favors to anybody on the NXT roster—especially Ripley. Having her beat Charlotte this time doesn't even make up for the fact she lost, as she's now having to regain momentum that was tossed away, rather than come out of this looking better than she did prior to WrestleMania. How WWE ever thought that was a good idea is beyond me. Sometimes, it's like they purposely avoid logic and screw with the people who are getting over just to shoot themselves in the foot and then look confused as to why they're limping.

But this may be a Triple Threat specifically so Shirai can take the loss, instead of Ripley, and they can drag that out even longer, unfortunately.

PREDICTION: Charlotte Flair wins by pinning or making Shirai tap out.

Finn Balor vs. Damian Priest

With WALTER on the back burner, NXT had to pivot away and give Balor another feud. They did the attack angle and revealed it was Damian Priest so that these two could fight.

They could do worse for a filler feud, but they could do better, too. I'm at least more fond of Priest than some people, so I'm curious to see how well he works with Balor. They may end up having great chemistry together.

PREDICTION: Finn Balor wins.

NXT North American Championship Match: Keith Lee (c) vs. Johnny Gargano

A mixed tag team match could have worked, but I'm much more fond of this title fight instead. This has some serious potential to be amazing if they have the right chemistry together.

I could see the title changing hands, particularly if there's a chance Keith Lee is the one to dethrone Adam Cole down the line. But given the circumstances of Velveteen Dream getting another shot, I'm going to lean toward Lee retaining here. I'm 50/50, though. Don't quote me on that even tomorrow as my opinion could change without even updating this back and forth.

PREDICTION: Keith Lee wins.

Six-Woman Tag Team Match: Mia Yim, Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart vs. Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez

Curious why they decided to add this at 9:40pm on the go-home show of NXT. Also curious why they went with this direction instead of the Yim vs LeRae match, or the interim cruiserweight title tournament finals. I guess they figured this was the best way to get as many people on the card as possible and maximize the amount of potential for the television ratings. Whatever. It's a throwaway match that should be kind of fun. I'm not upset about it.

PREDICTION: Team Mia Yim wins.
