WWE NXT TakeOver XXX 2020 Spoilers and Predictions |
NXT Championship Match: Keith Lee (c) vs. Karrion Kross
This
seems like it's happening too fast for my tastes, as I'd think Kross
would be the next champion and I don't want Lee to lose the title yet,
nor beat Kross yet. Maybe they do some kind of non-finish where Kross gets disqualified or both lose? Then again, NXT tends not to do things like that. They tend to just go for the gut punch, and if that's the case, maybe Lee does actually lose the belt this fast. Hm...
PREDICTION: 51% Keith Lee retains the title.
NXT North American Championship Ladder Match: Bronson Reed vs. Cameron Grimes vs. Damian Priest vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Velveteen Dream
Keith Lee vacated the North American Championship, which resulted in a series of qualifying matches to set up the entrants for a ladder match to crown the new champion.
Qualifying Match #1 - Bronson Reed defeated Johnny Gargano and Roderick Strong
Qualifying Match #2 - *Dexter Lumis defeated Finn Balor and Timothy Thatcher
Qualifying Match #3 - Damian Priest defeated Oney Lorcan and Ridge Holland
Qualifying Match #4 - Cameron Grimes defeated Kushida and Velveteen Dream
Second Chance Qualifying Match #1 - Johnny Gargano defeated Ridge Holland
Second Chance Qualifying Match #2 - Velveteen Dream defeated Finn Balor
Dexter Lumis won his qualifier, but suffered an injury in the process and was ruled unable to compete. Two second chance matches happened to make up for that and fill his slot. Had plans gone down the way it should have, they likely would have had one Fatal 4-Way second chance match instead of two singles matches, most likely.
I was leaning toward Finn Balor winning, but that's obviously not happening. Now, it's kind of a toss-up. Reed seems like the least likely option. Grimes doesn't strike me as a great choice. Gargano feels a bit like a demotion and Dream's got all these allegations working against him right now. I guess Priest is the safest pick.
PREDICTION: Damian Priest wins the title.
NXT Women's Championship Match: Io Shirai (c) vs. Dakota Kai
This should be a rock solid match. I'm a fan of both Shirai and Kai, they're trustworthy performers and I think they'll want to prove something and really give it their all.
As far as the winner goes, Shirai's keeping the belt. Of course, I didn't expect her to be champion this point in the year winning it from Charlotte Flair, of all people, so I've been wrong in the past. But I don't think they'd have her drop it this quickly after doing that with Ripley and Flair, no matter how good Kai is.
PREDICTION: Io Shirai retains the title.
Adam Cole vs. Pat McAfee
As soon as this angle went down on the Pat McAfee show, I figured this was a potential match. Once McAfee punted Cole, it was a done deal.
I actually thought they might make this a 4-on-4 type scenario with all of The Undisputed ERA against McAfee and three other people so those three could handle most of the work, but that would have watered this down. Unless this ends up being a total disaster, this is the smarter play as it puts more focus on McAfee himself.
Obviously, Cole should win this. The only way I think they could play off McAfee winning is if he gets a roll-up when someone distracts Cole, or blatantly cheats. He's the heel in this scenario, after all, rather than Cole. But ultimately, this should just be a fun little side story with Cole getting his revenge.
PREDICTION: Adam Cole wins.
Finn Balor vs. Timothy Thatcher
Originally, I had thought Balor would win the North American Championship and Thatcher would be his first real feud over it, if not the person who would dethrone him. I guess WWE is going more in the direction of having them fight without anything on the line and going from there. Here's hoping this isn't the same as Balor's other recent feuds in NXT where after one match, he'll promptly go back to having nothing to do and trying to find a new opponent. I'd love to see Thatcher win and for this to be a real feud that goes on past this event (but, naturally, not dragged out as long as WWE's done with some other things). However, Balor wins a lot of these matches, so I'll go with him keeping that trend going.
PREDICTION: Finn Balor wins.
Pre-Show - NXT Tag Team Championship No. 1 Contenders Triple Threat Match: Legado del Fantasma vs. Breezango vs. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch
Normally, I would think Legado del Fantasma would have to win this, as they're the priority team. However, as this is a No. 1 contender's match and Imperium are the heel champions, I think Lorcan and Burch have to come out on top.
PREDICTION: Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch win.
