The following are my predictions for the 2020 WWE Money in the Bank PPV. Check back for Money in the Bank 2020 results and review coverage here when the time comes.
WWE Money in the Bank 2020 Spoilers |
Universal Championship Match: Braun Strowman (c) vs. Bray Wyatt
This makes sense. They have history together with The Wyatt Family, Wyatt should be wanting to get the Universal Championship back, and Strowman doesn't have a lot of options for major contenders other than Wyatt. Hopefully, this isn't just a means to put the belt back on Bray and revert to the status quo of pre-Goldberg.
PREDICTION: Braun Strowman retains.
Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Daniel Bryan vs. Rey Mysterio vs. AJ Styles vs. Aleister Black vs. King Corbin vs. Otis
I originally thought AJ Styles would be the choice. That went out the window when he wasn't one of the options to even qualify. From the ones we do have, though, I can't see any of them winning and having a successful run with the briefcase as a standout easy pick. It's a bit suspicious they're doing this injury angle with Apollo Crews. Maybe he's going to be replaced by the eventual winner and that's why nobody seems like an obvious choice. Maybe they just go with King Corbin, as he's the one who could lord that title shot over Braun Strowman and keep backing away like a coward? I can't see Aleister Black holding a briefcase without looking stupid, that's for sure.
Update: So Apollo Crews was taken out and AJ Styles replaced him. Ha. I was right with my original idea.
PREDICTION: AJ Styles wins.
Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Asuka vs. Nia Jax vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Dana Brooke vs. Lacey Evans vs. Carmella
I was super shocked Dana Brooke beat Naomi to qualify, which makes me think I can't do well in predicting WWE's current mindset in creative. They could very well go with Brooke winning, just to surprise the hell out of me. I still think Sasha Banks winning the briefcase and having the temptation to cash-in on Bayley was too good to pass up, but they went ahead and passed on that, again. Nia Jax is standing out like the most dominant, but I'm not totally feeling that. This is hard.
PREDICTION: Shayna Baszler wins.
SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Bayley (c) vs. Tamina
I'm sure this will be a match people want to tune in to see. Ha. Let's be honest...nobody thinks Tamina will win, nor will anyone be invested in this. This is filler.
PREDICTION: Bayley wins.
WWE Championship Match: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Seth Rollins
Well, once Rollins attacked McIntyre, this was pretty self-explanatory. That's a good first real opponent. It makes sense why Rollins would go straight to trying to reclaim his spot at the top of Raw to indoctrinate more people and push his agenda. It also makes sense why McIntyre would want to fight Rollins and assert his new dominance.
Of course, WWE should not be resetting to the status quo of this point last year by having the title change hands. McIntyre is going to retain, for sure.
PREDICTION: Drew McIntyre retains.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Fatal 4-Way Match: The New Day (c) vs. The Miz and John Morrison vs. Lucha House Party vs. The Forgotten Sons
Curious why The Usos have been pushed aside, but maybe that's them not wanting to work during the pandemic. This should be fun, though. It's good to see two more tag teams in the mix, just to freshen things up a bit. Of course, I'm not expecting Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado to walk away with the titles. The Forgotten Sons have a chance, though. But I'm more so expecting the belts to stay where they are, or for The Miz and John Morrison to win them back.
PREDICTION: 51% The New Day retains. 49% Miz and Morrison win.
Jeff Hardy vs. Cesaro
Why is Hardy fighting Cesaro? They've had no crossover whatsoever. Cesaro's been involved with Daniel Bryan, Drew Gulak and even Otis, but not Hardy, who has been only involved with Sheamus.
I'm looking forward to the potential of the in-ring action, but I'd be much more into it if it was a feud, rather than a throwaway match.
PREDICTION: Jeff Hardy wins.
R-Truth vs. MVP
Look. I'm a fan of MVP and I'm a fan of R-Truth. But it annoys me that WWE waits until the day before pay-per-views and then adds random matches that literally make no sense, have no build to them, have nothing on the line, and aren't likely to wow anyone, just because they don't want to bother following logic.
A match like this is nothing to entice fans to want to watch the event. It doesn't even follow a story that has been happening on Raw in the hopes that people will want to watch the next chapter. That would be something like MVP, Brendan Vink and Shane Thorne against Cedric Alexander, Ricochet and a partner, which could be R-Truth. And if you argue that this could lead to that on Raw, then why is the random "out of nowhere" match of R-Truth vs. MVP setup match on the event? It just seems like it's more evidence that this isn't about using TV to build to the pay-per-views, but using PPVs to build to the TV episodes, which exist just to build to the PPVs, which then build to the TV, so that it's an endless cycle of "just wait for it" and not much else.
Anyway. Diatribe over. Maybe this is fun, as these two are fun performers. Hopefully, I'm reading too much into it and it's just an interesting match that leads somewhere fun after this, too, and not WWE just going ".....fuck it...idk...R-Truth vs. MVP...that'll take up 10 minutes and shut those fans up."
PREDICTION: MVP wins.
