CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
ALWAYS FABULOUS
I was surprised that it took as long as it did for Carmella to win the 24/7 title from R-Truth, but I am glad that WWE finally saw fit to pull the trigger. Firstly, in the sense of kayfabe, she deserves it for all the work she has put in to help R-Truth evade capture and regain the title time and time again. Then, in the context of the real world, she deserves it for playing a part in establishing just how fun the 24/7 division could be.
I realize that many see it as a quaternary tier title, but, as I have said all along, it is a division that offers a very different type of wrestling experience, allows for goofy fun moments, and gives some of the undercard a chance to shine.
Though I felt that the scene waned slightly when WWE started focusing almost exclusively on Drake Maverick and R-Truth, merely because it got a little samey, Carmella's win allows the division to take a different direction for a little while.
After all, as shown in the aftermath of Carmella winning, some of the lesser used women look set to get a little more TV time as they tried to chase Carmella down for the title. Can we have a woman's dominated 24/7 title scene for a while? Why the heck not!
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
NOT TIME YET
NOT TIME YET
Poor Braun Strowman. Always on the cusp of reaching the top, but never quite gets there. Sadly, this past week on Raw was no different Weeks removed from yet another failed Universal title attempt, Braun had his non-title match with Seth Rollins interrupted when he became the latest victim of The Fiend. Admittedly, a cool moment, and one that further cements WWE's faith in Bray Wyatt's creation, but I cannot but help feel sorry that the timing never works out in Braun's favor. They keep building him up and towards this big moment, but there seems to always be another wrestler, another feud, or just a political reason that has meant his time never comes.
It is quite mad when you think about it. Here we have a mountain of a man that once decimated an entire tag division on his own, but always gets bested in singles competition when the big one is the line.
It surely will come, but in the near future? Unless Fox are getting both Brock and Bray, and Braun remains on Raw, I am not sure that it will be anytime soon.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
