Cheap Pop & Cheap Heat of the Week in Wrestling #280

Posted by Ross K. Foad Thursday, September 12, 2019
Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?

CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
THE FUNHOUSE MYSTERY

Firefly Fun House episodes always bring up the overall experience of Raw, but I particularly like the cryptic nature and symbolism intertwined with it. Some are a little more overt, such the puppet friends being embodiments to his past personas and incarnations, but others are a little more hidden.

Bray is very smart. He knows that wrestling fans over analyze everything, and has provided an extra source of entertainment through the inclusion of mysterious clues in the show.

The latest of these is, of course, the Fun House clock showing 11:19 after Bray fixed it. My first thought was this referred to November 2019, and has something to do with Survivor Series, but another theory being floated is that is a reference to a Bible passage, and many have identified Ezekiel 11:19 as the most fitting one.

I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.

Admittedly, this is very Bray, and I could see it fitting, but, whatever it does mean, I just love how it unites wrestling fans to go on these quests and share their findings. Wrestling fans normally duel to the death over differing opinions online, but I think that we can all agree how brilliant Bray Wyatt and The Fiend are.

Also, Ezekiel Jackson return confirmed!

CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
HORSEWOMEN IN A HURRY

The Horse Women’s tag match on Raw made for really good viewing, but I do feel a little pang of sadness that we may have just squandered something that had the potential to be even bigger and better.

When Sasha Banks and Bayley kept getting the upper hand on Becky Lynch, it seemed almost inevitable that Charlotte Flair would be inserted at some point to even the odds, but I do not think many predicted it happening as quickly as it did.

Lest we forget, but Charlotte and Becky were intense rivals for a very long time, and really not long ago either. I feel that a reunion of their friendship surely warranted a Dean Ambrose/Seth Rollins style build to it. We could have had Charlotte trying to make amends, but Becky Lynch rebutting her offers for help until they finally managed to let bygones be bygones and get on the same page to take out Banks and Bayley.

Thankfully, WWE did let them acknowledge distrust with one another, but it is still hard not to look at this match as being rushed through. Of course, there could be a number of reasons that this happened, such as WWE being strict over roster splits once SmackDown Live moves to Fox, and they were unsure of when they would have a chance to do anything like it for a while.

Obviously something is better than nothing, but, given their storied history, it is hard not to look at what could have been.
