The following are my predictions for the 2019 WWE Stomping Grounds PPV. Check back for Stomping Grounds 2019 results and review coverage here when the time comes..
WWE Stomping Grounds 2019 Spoilers |
Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre
Post-Shane McMahon feud, Roman Reigns moves on to Drew McIntyre. They made it clear that was going to happen, and now, they've confirmed it. Who the hell is supposed to really care about this rematch from WrestleMania? These are two big names who are talented and deserve better than what WWE has given them to work with. This could have been a main event of WrestleMania next year, and they've wasted it twice now.
PREDICTION: Roman Reigns wins.
SmackDown Women's Championship Match: Bayley (c) vs. Alexa Bliss
Well this is interesting. Not only do they seem to be changing their mind on a daily basis whether Alexa Bliss is a heel or a babyface, it's also strange that she's simultaneously in a feud with Bayley now, as well as a storyline with Nikki Cross, as well as potentially The IIconics, who are feuding with The Kabuki Warriors (although, they haven't been seen in a while), and Becky Lynch was teaming with Nikki Cross, but Becky is with Charlotte Flair and Lacey Evans, while Flair was in the No. 1 contender's match to possibly fight Bayley.
Basically....WWE seems like it's very chaotic right now, and I didn't think Bayley against Bliss would have been the direction they would have gone. Although, I don't think even they knew this the night before they crowned Bliss the No. 1 contender, so...
PREDICTION: Bayley retains the title.
Universal Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Baron Corbin
So we're just doing this again in a rematch from Super ShowDown? I hate it when WWE does that and introduces no extra element to spice things up. At least the WWE title match is in a steel cage. Seth Rollins walks out with the title, unless Brock Lesnar cashes in.
The special guest referee is still unknown. My guess is that it will be Shane McMahon.
PREDICTION: Seth Rollins retains the title if Lesnar isn't in the equation.
WWE Championship Steel Cage Match: Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
Neat. It's weird that they did a steel cage match at Money in the Bank and here, with Extreme Rules coming up. But I'm a fan of these two, so I'm interested to see what they do together, as I wasn't able to pay much attention to their match at Super ShowDown.
PREDICTION: Kofi Kingston retains the title.
Raw Women's Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Lacey Evans
Very surprised this isn't a Triple Threat match with Charlotte Flair involved. I wonder if they're trying to save that to have Flair vs. Evans for a title at WrestleMania next year or something along those lines. As this is what it is, I sadly don't care about it. It's just another rematch from Money in the Bank.
PREDICTION: Becky Lynch retains the title.
Cruiserweight Championship Triple Threat Match: Tony Nese (c) vs. Akira Tozawa vs. Drew Gulak
The No. 1 contender's match ended with Gulak and Tozawa pinning each other. That means a Triple Threat was the obvious solution. My guess is they realized they didn't want to do Tozawa solo, but that since they had set that up, they opted to go with a three-way. Now, here's the question to ask: is Tozawa taking the pin from Nese, or losing to Gulak? If he's there to lose to Gulak, that would stall a Nese vs. Gulak match. But if he's there to lose to Nese, then Gulak can come back another time and say he wasn't defeated. I think this largely has to do with how much WWE wants to focus on Mike Kanellis, because there's a chance he wins the title instead of Gulak, and this is basically just a means for Nese to beat Tozawa and then drag out his match with Gulak, until eventually losing to Kanellis. If WWE doesn't want to give the belt to Kanellis, though, then Gulak can definitely win the belt here and have a rematch against Nese at Extreme Rules or SummerSlam.
PREDICTION: I'm 50/50 on Nese or Gulak, but Tozawa definitely isn't winning.
United States Championship Match: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Ricochet
Hey, neat, they're highlighting Ricochet. I like it. This should be a fun match and it's something I'm definitely interested in checking out. It's also a win/win situation, as I like both of them a lot and I'd be cool with both being the United States champion.
PREDICTION: Samoa Joe retains the title.
The New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
Wait a minute. I'm a big fan of all four of these guys, but WWE's answer to Stomping Grounds not selling enough tickets was partially to announce a generic tag team match between people we've seen face each other a lot in the past 2 months? Who thought that would be the saving grace? Again, these four guys are great, but what is the attraction here? Why is this on the card, but no tag title matches have been booked for THREE tag titles, and at least at the time I'm writing this, no Intercontinental Championship match is scheduled, nothing is happening with plenty of big names, and there's no real hook to watch the rest of the series of rematches like Reigns/McIntyre...Bad move. This will not budge the needle at all, and WWE absolutely has to stop thinking that lazy rematches are going to be anything to get excited about.
PREDICTION: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn probably win, but who cares? It means nothing to anybody, including the viewers, and all four guys deserve much better.
SmackDown Tag Teams Championship Match: Daniel Bryan and Rowan (c) vs. Heavy Machinery
The Usos earned a future title shot, which was just forgotten about. Instead, Heavy Machinery stepped in, and they're firmly the next challengers, after having some setup the past few weeks. Hey, whatever. I like Otis and Daniel Bryan. Maybe this will be fun.
PREDICTION: Daniel Bryan and Rowan retain the titles.
PREDICTED MATCHES (as of 6/18/2019)
Raw Tag Team Championship Match: The Revival (c) vs. Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder
Viking Raiders were pushed aside entirely, despite earning a title shot. That's what happens when the Wild Card Rule throws everyone's attention elsewhere for a few weeks (hint, hint, hire me as the continuity script supervisor and I'd have kept track of that for you).
So now, The Revival are tag champs again, and we've reverted back to what we were before WrestleMania.
Sadly, I don't think this match is even happening. I can imagine Ryder and Hawkins get a title opportunity on Raw itself, but not on Stomping Grounds. Then, if The Revival have any match on this card, they fight The Usos, who were supposed to get a SmackDown tag title shot, but here we are.
PREDICTION: The Revival retain the titles.
Intercontinental Championship Match: Finn Balor (c) vs. Andrade
I'm assuming Andrade gets a rematch and that's when he wins the title. However, it seems that isn't happening at this event, unless it's spontaneously added.
PREDICTION: Andrade wins the title.
