CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
REIGNS RETURNS
REIGNS RETURNS
Monday Night Raw was pretty stacked with awesome moments this past week, but I am going to have to pick the one that can surely resonate to those who are not even wrestling fans.
Namely, Roman Reigns returning following his leukemia going into remission.
As suspected, his return was done to a major pop that wonderfully encompassed the human spirit. This was not about titles, this was not about feuds, and this was not about backstage politics. It was simply a celebration of human being coming back from a second dosage of a potentially life losing fight.
In addition, it was all the more remarkable that he did it in such a short space of time. Having a body as strong as his probably did come into play, but I do hope that his recovery can give hope to others fighting too.
Also, I loved that he reunited with Seth and they helped save Dean from a beat down. The Lunatic may not have wanted it, he may not have deserved it, but the fact that they come to aid was just a further moment of beauty for the night. He was forgiven.
The previous two Shield reunions were never quite what they should have been, and both times were largely marred by illness or injury. However, could we be seeing one last reunion before Dean, allegedly, leaves? I believe that they should.
While they will always be regarded as one of the top WWE factions, it would be nice to have the footnote for their legacy as a unit to end upon a positive note.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
A SHORT LIVED REVIVAL
A SHORT LIVED REVIVAL
Injuries and odd booking choices had left The Revival in a somewhat flattened position. Their gimmick is that they do not need a gimmick, but this becomes somewhat undermined when they lose so frequently.
With rumors emerging that they might have been AEW bound, it is thought that WWE gave them the tag titles to placate them into staying. So, for the brief period that followed, it looked like they were going to be taken seriously going forward.
Alas, this may no longer be the case for Messrs Dash and Dawson. For just a few short weeks into their reign, they have already lost twice in a row, and one of these times to the very recently formed team of Ricochet and Alistair Black. Not a great look for a newly crowned veteran team.
Of course, two losses is nothing for your average wrestler, but I really feel that WWE should think very carefully about how, and why, champions should lose non-title matches. Otherwise, never mind reviving their WWE careers, we might be looking at a need for resuscitation.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
