PREDICTIONS BEFORE BATTLE ROYAL

This is tricky. I can't picture someone like Keith Lee winning and choosing a title shot for 205 Live, for instance, but anybody can challenge for anything and it really ultimately doesn't matter, right? The title match isn't even happening at this event, so it can happen at any point.

I think the only people we can truly rule out are Otis Dozovic and maybe Zack Gibson, especially since Dozovic is not even in the tournament anymore and has been replaced by Shane Thorne, so that means Thorne is out, too, as he clearly wasn't the pick from the start. I don't think it'll be Adam Cole. I have my doubts about Tony Nese, but he could very well challenge for the NXT title, the North American title, and so on.

That wildcard unannounced person is enticing. Very enticing.

My gut says Dominik Dijakovic is the one person to protect, but they could have him suffer a count-out or DQ loss to take him out of the equation. Argh. I'm stuck.

One thing I will say is that I kind of can't picture them going through all this effort and having someone challenge on their own brand. For instance, if Jordan Devlin wins, he's not fighting Pete Dunne for the United Kingdom Championship. He'd fight someone else.

Until we see the bracket, my very extremely preliminary pick is to go with Travis Banks winning to challenge Buddy Murphy for the Cruiserweight Championship....but I'm nowhere near comfortable with that guess. It could literally be anyone. I'm starting to think Cedric Alexander can win and fight Ciampa and lose on an episode of NXT in February or March before moving to NXT full time.

PREDICTIONS AFTER ROUND 1

Well, I was wrong about a few things already, particularly Cedric Alexander's chances. Now, we're down to NXT being represented by the most people with Cole, Dijakovic, Lee and Velveteen Dream, NXT UK still having Devlin and Bate, and 205 Live having Gulak and Carrillo.

I have to rule out Carrillo, right out of the gate. I also still think Cole isn't winning this, and I'm also convinced Dijakovic is either winning the whole thing in order to beat Ricochet for the North American Championship, or he's just getting counted out or disqualified or something.

Devlin winning the battle royal strikes me as something that should point to him not winning the tournament.

So that leaves me with Keith Lee, Velveteen Dream, Tyler Bate and Drew Gulak, and between those, I'm oddly thinking this is either Bate challenging for the Cruiserweight Championship or Gulak challenging for the North American or United Kingdom title. Round 2 will naturally be interesting to follow.
