WWE Royal Rumble 2019 Preview and Predictions - Triple Threat POV

Posted by Robert DeFelice Thursday, January 24, 2019
Welcome to another edition of Triple Threat from Smark Out Moment, where three of us get together to discuss three questions based on one big topic going down in the week of professional wrestling.

This week, Robert DeFelice, Jordan Chaffiotte, and Greg Coleman will be giving their thoughts on what may happen at the 2019 WWE Royal Rumble!

It is time to talk about the Royal Rumble! As we head to Phoenix, we have a lot to think about. Who will walk out with gold? Who will punch their ticket to MetLife Stadium? Let's discuss...

Question 1: Raw’s Universal Championship is being contested in a David versus Goliath scenario as Finn Balor challenges Brock Lesnar. Who do you see walking out of Phoenix with the Big Red?

COLEMAN: I have called for this match to happen for a long time because I felt it would be the perfect feather in the cap of The Demon character. Now we’ve learned that Finn Balor will not be The Demon on Sunday night and it will just be Finn Balor the man. Before Monday, I was of the thinking that it’s possible Balor could win since this would be a hallmark moment of this new era of change the McMahon regime committed themselves to weeks ago but in the end, they would prove they hadn’t changed at all and Lesnar would win. I’m not sure if this means anything but it’s been 15 years since the late Eddie Guerrero shocked the world and beat Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship with a little help from Goldberg. I believe history will repeat itself and Braun Strowman will play a part in Lesnar’s demise setting up a WrestleMania match between the two. Balor finally gets back the Universal Title he never lost and slays the beast.

DeFELICE: As much as I would love to see a new champion, I just don’t believe that this is the time. However, if they really wanted to surprise us, a Finn Balor victory would get the job done. That being said, I think Brock Lesnar retains in a really good match.

CHAFFIOTTE: Hear me out, Finn Balor is the perfect person to defeat Brock Lesnar and make way for him to move on full-time to UFC. On paper, he's got no chance. That's exactly the point. Despite Paul Heyman seeing Balor for the incredible competitor he is, Lesnar will certainly take him lightly. Balor, meanwhile, is smart and tough enough to make this happen. If they pull the trigger on this, it'll catapult Balor back to the spot he left when he was injured after SummerSlam, and make him true to his moniker. They say they're listening to us more, and we're saying loud and clear that we want to see the championship on Monday Night Raw, we want an active champion who can deliver every single night. Finn Balor is that champion.

Question 2: Who do you see winning the 2018 women's Royal Rumble? What’s your early projection for the women’s main event of WrestleMania?

COLEMAN: Rousey vs Lynch and Asuka vs Charlotte 2. I believe instead of having a triple threat match with Charlotte, Becky, and Ronda, I think we see a women’s double main event with Lynch and Rousey finally clashing and a rematch of Asuka and Charlotte from last year’s WrestleMania. There has never been a better time to have women headline WrestleMania so I hope these women are given the proper time and opportunity to show up and show out.

CHAFFIOTTE: My best guess right now is Becky Lynch losing her match against Asuka earlier in the night, and going to the McMahons to ask to be put in the Royal Rumble. Vince agrees, under the condition she goes in at number 1. Lynch then goes full ironman and gets down to the very end with Charlotte Flair. Tricky as this spot may be, we need them to eliminate each other at the very same time. Bickering ensues on the subsequent SmackDowns and battle lines and drawn before Flair purposes a deal. They both take on Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women's Championship in a triple threat. Lynch agrees, may the best woman win. This main events WrestleMania, Lynch wins the Raw Women's Championship and comes over to Red Brand, and Jordan cries tears of happiness over her wine. *chefs kiss*

DeFELCE: I think it's Charlotte's night. She can become the first-ever second-generation Royal Rumble winner. The only thing potentially stopping this is a Becky Lynch inclusion in the match but that would require a lot of chicaneries early on in the night. Seeing as I don't have a crystal ball, I'm going with what I know and predicting a very successful night for The Queen.

Question 3: Who do you see winning the 2018 men's Royal Rumble? What’s your early projection for the men’s main event of WrestleMania?

DeFELICE: I really think that this has been a very unpredictable Royal Rumble. However, I think this is the year that somebody unannounced and unexpected wins the Royal Rumble and gun to my head I'm picking Batista. If I'm wrong, I hope it's somebody good but my brain keeps telling me to expect the unexpected.

COLEMAN: My pick for the Men’s Rumble for months has been Seth Rollins because the winner of this match will come from the Raw side since Nakamura won last year. McIntyre winning the Rumble to me wouldn’t yield the best WrestleMania match possible with either Lesnar or Balor. Rollins goes onto WrestleMania and puts on a classic with Balor.

CHAFFIOTTE: Perhaps I've been too fan-favorite happy this week, but this is a critical moment for WWE to show they're serious about the fresh start. In that case, the obvious choice for the Men's Royal Rumble is Seth Rollins. No one has earned that honor more than Rollins. He may not have a title around his waist anymore, but he still carries a ton of weight on his shoulders for WWE.

Those are our thoughts on the issue, but where do you stand?
