WWE NXT TakeOver: Phoenix Results

2018 Year-End Awards

Breakout Star of the Year = Ricochet
Match of the Year = Johnny Gargano vs. Andrade "Cien" Almas (NXT Championship Match, TakeOver: Philadelphia)
Male Competitor of the Year = Tommaso Ciampa
Female Competitor of the Year = Kairi Sane
Tag Team of the Year = The Undisputed ERA
Overall Competitor of the Year = Kairi Sane
TakeOver of the Year = New Orleans
Rivalry of the Year = Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa
Future Star of NXT = Io Shirai

THOUGHTS: Would've helped to have the final three awards announced on the pre-show itself, instead of just saying "go to WWE.com", but okay. I'm very surprised Kairi Sane won both of her awards. Shocked that Andrade/Gargano won the best match, too, as I thought that would go to a Gargano/Ciampa thing (but I'm not complaining about any of those results). Overall, good group of results and I'm really glad that they're still doing this, since I miss the Slammy Awards and these are the next best thing.

NXT Tag Team Championship Match: The Undisputed ERA (c) vs. War Raiders

RESULT:War Raiders won the titles by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Awesome match. I'm not putting it on my list of Match of the Year candidates, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Matt Riddle vs. Kassius Ohno

RESULT: Matt Riddle wins by submission from a series of elbows
THOUGHTS: Interesting finish. I didn't think that would be how it went down. This was better than I was willing to give it credit for, heading into the match. I enjoyed it.

NXT North American Championship Match: Ricochet (c) vs. Johnny Gargano

RESULT: Johnny Gargano wins the title by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Another great match, and I'm glad Gargano won the title, too. No complaints whatsoever. Both of these guys are just so damn good.

NXT Women's Championship Match: Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Bianca Belair

RESULT: Shayna Baszler retains the title by referee stoppage/submission
THOUGHTS: Belair suffers her first loss, but they did everything they could to make her look strong in that effort, by having referee Jessika Carr not able to count a pin, Duke and Shafir interfering twice, and Belair not really tapping out.

NXT Championship Match: Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs. Aleister Black

RESULT: Tommaso Ciampa retains the title by pinfall
THOUGHTS: Underwhelming. I was disappointed in this match. It wasn't bad, but I thought it would be much better than what it was.

To end the show, Johnny Gargano comes out and poses with Ciampa on the stage.
