CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
RONDA GETS ROWDY
RONDA GETS ROWDY
Many are ill at ease with having The Bella Twins mentioned in the same sentence as the women's revolution, and it is for this reason I love that the twins are now being portrayed as the arrogant heels that so many see them as anyway.
Who would truly cheer a face Nikki over a heel Ronda Rousey? She might as well change her name to Woman Reigns if that happened. It would have just been insulting to insulate that Nikki is the hero of the piece.
Of course, we must also mention the real nature of their recent exchange, and just how thorny the barbs Ronda was throwing actually were. Not since AJ Lee's declaration that talent is not sexually transmitted have we had this level of truly personal insults.
Was Ronda too mean? Maybe, but it was not like there was anything said that had not been bandied about before. Plus, Nikki would surely have agreed beforehand for it to get to this level.
What was also notable was how well Ronda handled herself during the promo. Her fighting skills have always been second to none, but overly cheesy or nervous promos littered much of her early days. Perhaps, she is just more comfortable dolling out insults as fierce as her strikes?
I was not initially enthralled by the idea of them facing off, but now it has certainly got my attention.
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
ROYAL DISAPPOINTMENT
Women of WWE took to Twitter this past week to express their somewhat apathetic responses to being in a Battle Royal for Evolution.
Frankly, who can blame them? As Naomi so aptly pointed out, her win at the last historic women's battle royal resulted in neither a title shot or even her receiving the trophy. What reason have they got to be excited to be lumped together like this? The marquee matches booked thus far, while impressive, are not exactly abundant. If ever there was a pay-per-view where they had space to create some more meaningful matches, here it is.
Some have speculated that they were told to post messages about being disappointed to build tension, but what sort of story is that? The event is designed to celebrate and showcase how so much has changed for them in the industry!
In addition, has anyone else noticed that all of the recent female pairings have been thrown into the match too? This casts some serious doubt on women's tag belts coming any time soon. Again, if we are getting them, is there really going to be a better time to introduce them than here?
It is understandable that WWE wanted a way to get everyone on the card, but it feels like there are going to be some real missed opportunities for some of the ladies.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
