Cheap Pop & Cheap Heat of the Week in Wrestling #232

Posted by Ross K. Foad Thursday, October 11, 2018
Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?

CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
DX REUNITE

Some fans may complain about WWE not building new stars and relying on part-timers and special event acts, but there is a very good reason for it. They deliver, and we react. It is because of this, and the fact that I have been a DX fan since their inception, that I am super happy at the prospect of this reunion and the upcoming match at Crown Jewel.

It was a treat to see Triple H vs. The Undertaker again, and really bizarre to think that the combination of DX and The Brothers of Destruction has never faced off before. I suppose that the Kane and The Undertaker were never together when DX were and vice versa, but it still seems odd that nobody thought to make this happen sooner.

I am also looking forward to seeing how they present themselves this time around. Will we get rude and crude or self-deprecating dad joke DX? Or, possibly, an entirely new aggressive ass kicking take on the team?

I would be down with that.

CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
TOURNAMENT TROUBLES

The WWE World Cup, an 8-man tournament at Crown Jewel, is a great concept in theoretical premise, but slightly meaningless when at least fifty percent of the competitors will represent the United States.

The very idea of a world cup is that each country is represented by one team from that nation. This could have been something really different to showcase WWE's best international signings. What about if it had been Pete Dunn, Cesaro, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Buddy Murphy, Rusev, Kurt Angle, and Shinsuke Nakamura? That has potential show-stealer all over it.

There is nothing wrong with the current qualified competitors from a talent perspective, but given the title of the card, would it not have made more sense just making this King of the Ring?

A missed opportunity.

Oh, also that tag line that it determines who is the best in the world? The WWE title and CM Punk would like a word…
