Women's Wrestling Weekly Recap & Review #181

Posted by Gabby Velasquez Saturday, April 28, 2018
Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, Lucha Underground's luchadoras, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.

Let's just get down to business, shall we?

WWE Greatest Royal Rumble Ever

Oh, right.

Impact Wrestling: Redemption

Allie vs. Su Yung (Knockouts Championship match)

I promise that everything I'm about to write is true.

Allie rolled Su up to retain her title. Braxton Sutter, who saw her all sad, decided to comfort her by...proposing. To which she responded by misting him.

I promise you I'm not lying.

Winner: Allie
Rating: 2.5/5

WWE Monday Night Raw

Alexa Bliss, Mickie James, Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott & Sarah Logan vs. Bayley, Ember Moon, Natalya, Nia Jax, & Sasha Banks

The trick to having an entire show where women are literally not allowed to compete? Give them a rushed, massive tag team main event for Raw. Wow, guys, WWE just solved feminism. Historic. Evolution. Women. Yay.

Bayley and Sasha reluctantly joined forces to battle the heels and newly arrived Riott Squad. The true star of this match, however, was champion Nia Jax, who took out literally everyone with a splash through the ropes out of the ring. Natalya, who is apparently a face again, rose up, but was then attacked by Mickie James. However, her GOOD FRIEND Ronda Rousey emerged to make the save. That help, however, cost the faces the match and gave the heels victory via disqualification.

That explains the main event slot, then. Ronda is main event candy for WWE. The match itself felt rushed, but all of the women in it are talented and they got a chance to shine. Ember Moon continues to be very exciting, and I'm excited to see where she goes.

Winners: Alexa Bliss, Mickie James, Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott & Sarah Logan
Rating: 2.5/5

WWE SmackDown

Asuka & Becky Lynch vs. The IIconics

Asuka took control of the match early on, as Asuka is prone to do, before tagging in Becky Lynch, who kept their momentum going. They controlled most of the match, but a schoolboy and some help from the ropes allowed Peyton Royce to steal a victory for herself and life partner Billie Kay. They then celebrated like the iconic legends they are.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love them?

Man, Asuka just can't catch a break, even if Becky was the one who ate the pin. Insert sad face here. Elsewhere, however, Charlotte and SmackDown Women's Champion Carmella brawled and signed their contracts for their upcoming Backlash match.

Winners: The IIconics
Rating: 3/5

Impact Wrestling

Allie vs. Taya Valkyrie (Knockouts Championship match)

Allie is on a roll.

Though Valkyrie fought hard to start, even locking in her beautiful submission, Allie escaped and retained her title with a Codebreaker and Superkick. After the match, however, Su Yung launched a very creepy attack, but was confronted and stopped by Su Yung.

Yes. Give me my creepy queens in a feud. This? This is excellent.

Winner: Allie
Rating: 2.5/5

International Corner:

This section includes recaps of matches from around the world in various lesser-known independent promotions throughout the week.

PROGRESS

Match: Toni Storm vs. Jessica Troy (PROGRESS Women's Championship match)
Winner: Jessica Troy

STARDOM

Match:  Hana Kimura & Kagetsu vs. Bea Priestley & Chardonnay (Goddesses of Stardom Championship match)
Winner: Hana Kimura & Kagetsu

ATTACK! Pro Wrestling

Match: Millie McKenzie vs. Kyle Fletcher
Winner: Millie McKenzie

MATCH OF THE WEEK:
Alexa Bliss, Mickie James, Liv Morgan, Ruby Riott & Sarah Logan vs. Bayley, Ember Moon, Natalya, Nia Jax, & Sasha Banks

The women obviously had some chips on their shoulders heading into this match. The entire episode of Raw was built around an event they were not allowed to perform at because of their gender. How did they respond? Showing why they're such exciting members of Raw's roster.

Boom.

WOMAN OF THE WEEK:
Allie

I mean, she retained her title twice.

TWICE.
