Review of UFC 219 pay-per-view Cyborg vs Holm

MAIN CARD

FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Cris Cyborg (c) vs Holly Holm (#2)

This is an easy 50-45 to Cyborg for me, judges all gave Holm a round, with two of them giving her two rounds, but easily a Cyborg win. Good fight, but no question about the result in my eyes.

RESULT: Cris Cyborg, unanimous decision.

LIGHTWEIGHT: Khabib Nurmagomedov (#2) vs Edson Barboza (#4)

Khabib MAULED Barboza! Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson should do everything they can to avoid Khabib, he could rule this division.

RESULT: Khabib Nurmagomedov, unanimous decision.

LIGHTWEIGHT: Dan Hooker vs Marc Diakiese

First two round were quite close and could've been given either way, but were both given to Diakiese. Hooker got the the guillotine early in the third, though, and it was game over from there.

RESULT: Dan Hooker, 3rd round submission.

STRAWWEIGHT: Cynthia Calvillo (#6) vs Carla Esparza (#9)

Again, 29-28 either way could be argued and another very good, very close fight. Esparza deserves the win, just, but I would love to see a rematch.

RESULT: Carla Esparza, unanimous decision.

WELTERWEIGHT: Carlos Condit (#8) vs Neil Magny (#12)

This was a close fight and an argument could be made to give it to Condit. I think 30-27 for Magny is the fair decision, but it does not represent how close this fight was at all, and it would be very easy to make a case for 29-28 to Condit.

RESULT: Neil Magny, unanimous decision.

PRELIMINARY CARD

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT: Khalil Rountree Jr. vs Michal Oleksiejczuk

The two heavy hitters went at it for the first two rounds, before the third seemed like they had given everything. Michal takes all three rounds, not the most exciting fight in the world though.

RESULT: Michal Oleksiejczuk, unanimous decision.

LIGHTWEIGHT: Myles Jury (#15) vs Rick Glenn

Jury takes all three rounds, 30-27, simple.

RESULT: Myles Jury, unanimous decision.

MIDDLEWEIGHT: Marvin Vettori vs Omari Akhmedov

Akhmedov takes the first two rounds narrowly before Vettori dominates the third. I find it hard to give a 10-8 without at least one knockdown, so I would've given it to Akhmedov. A draw is probably fair though. How one ref gave Vettori the second round I don't know.

RESULT: Majority Draw.

FLYWEIGHT: Louis Smolka (#13) vs Matheus Nicolau

Easy 10-8 in the first round for Nicolau and the second and third were fairly comfortable. Good win for Nicolau.

RESULT: Matheus Nicolau, unanimous decision

EARLY PRELIMINARY CARD

BANTAMWEIGHT: Tim Elliot vs Mark de la Rosa

Dominant first round, then a submission early in the second for Elliot.

RESULT: Tim Elliot, 2nd round submission.
