RUSEV DAY!
The concept of Rusev Day is ridiculous. Take one strong brute who is obsessed with the idea that every day is dedicated to him, and give him a supportive friend who sings opera songs about it. However, in reality? This is easily one of the best things on SmackDown Live.
This past week brought us the news that Rusev Day t-shirts have already sold out, and the demand for more is still going strong. Ok, we do have to take into account that WWE may not have created a huge stock in the first place, but anything selling out that fast will not go unnoticed. For instance, take the triple threat tag match on SmackDown Live.
While Aidan English and Rusev did not get the win, neither were they the ones taking the pin-fall. It may not seem like much at first glance, but did WWE just sacrifice their longest running tag champs in order to protect the pair?
It is not hard to see why they have become so popular. They are entertaining backstage and in promos, can put on excellent matches, and you can just tell just how much fun they are having with it, and it is extremely infectious.
In fact, nevermind Rusev Day, I am all for 2018 being Rusev year!
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
TAG TEAM TURMOIL
Every couple of years, WWE mixes up the tag division by having the titles find their way into main event story lines. This either works brilliantly, such as with the Two Man Power Trip, or it can just make the tag titles feel an unwanted consolation prize. You cannot tell me that the belts matter whilst also having The Miz purposely lose them to spite John Cena.
So, where are we going with Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan winning the belts this past week on Raw?
Seth and Jason were not feuding, and I have my doubts that they are going to be together long enough to cement any sort of a legacy. So, why do it? This on the fly booking decision has further derailed any hope of the lackluster Shield reunion ever picking up steam again.
Roman Reigns has had his problems with Jordan, and Dean was barely gone a week before Seth moved on and won the titles with someone else. Where does the group go from here? Ok, maybe a break-up was always inevitable before WrestleMania, but we have basically arrived at it without even going on a journey.
Also, if they really had to get the belts off The Bar, were there no other suitable teams? The Club have not exactly been doing much lately...
What a sorry state of affairs for both the division and what many consider the best Faction in recent WWE history.
