CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
CENA VS. REIGNS
John Cena and Roman Reigns' promo caused a stir on Monday Night Raw, and it is not hard to see why.
Cena accused Reigns of being a poor bootleg copy of himself, but Reigns fired back by telling Cena that he is nowhere near as special as he thinks. The barbs continued to build to such an extent that many fans began to question whether this was a shoot promo. However, according to the likes of Dave Meltzer and PWI, there was nothing here that was not sanctioned by WWE, and John Cena was heavily involved in the writing of the of both men's lines.
Though, it is worth pointing out that the televised version did feature Cena laying into Roman Reigns when he stumbled on some lines. The removal of this in the YouTube version has led some viewers to speculate this part was John Cena shooting on the fly.
Regardless of how clever some fans think they are for sussing this one out, the point remains that it in a predominately scripted show, it still caused enough of a stir for people to question the legitimacy behind it. We should know by now that it is the rarest of occasions that WWE gives complete cart blanche, but Cena and Reigns were able to play some fans into wondering otherwise.
Roman Reigns promos have a history of being hit and miss (suffering succotash!) and even if he was not up to Cena's level on this occasion, the nature of the exchange elevated his skills greatly. You cannot learn unless you do, and verbally sparring with the likes of John Cena is only going to help him in the long run.
Due to John's acting commitments this is likely to be a short feud, but if this promo is anything to go by, one that will be very sweet indeed
CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
NOT MUSIC TO MY EARS
NOT MUSIC TO MY EARS
What on earth is Emma's new music even meant to be? The old one fit quirky Emma so well, but this new one sounds like music that is not really meant to be listened to. It's the kind of music being piped quietly through a shopping mall to create an ambience, or as an introduction theme for a low-budget Australian soap.
My first thought was how on earth did CFO$ go from creating the likes of Bobby Roode and Mike Kanellis' themes to this, but it turns out that this one was done by Jim Johnston! Yes, Jim Johnston who created the likes of Degeneration X and Stone Cold's theme. How is that possible?
However, new theme music does generally indicates a push, so it is good news; if it means WWE is finally investing in the often overlooked Emma, but I wish that it was whilst still using her old theme.
Entrance music is so important for a wrestler's overall presentation. When that music hits, we get excited. It is hard to do that when you cannot wait for the entrance to be over, and the music switched off.
So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
