WWE Monday Night Raw - February 20, 2017 - Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA
WWE SmackDown - February 21, 2017 – Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA
BATTLE OF THE BRANDS:
RAW vs. SMACKDOWN
FACTOR 1: CROWD
If I had the option to choose neither of these crowds I totally would. Both of them were absolute garbage in my opinion and seemed totally dead. Which is a total surprise to me as they’re both pretty big stops and decent wrestling venues, especially Staples Center, in big wrestling towns like Ontario. But, since I’m being forced by myself to choose between two turds, I’ll go with Ontario.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 2: COMMENTARY
I held out for as long as I could. I really thought Otunga would get better. I gave him a chance just like I did Saxton, but things just aren’t getting better with either of them. SmackDown is still superior, but man they aren’t great.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 3: MATCHES
Raw, as a whole, totally sucked. And that includes nearly every match they had even though it was basically all promos. Their main event wasn’t terrible, but everything else was a total bomb.
SmackDown though, had some decent stuff. Their Women’s Championship match, even though I wish Naomi didn’t have to vacate it, was really good. And I was a big fan of the main event #1 contender battle royal even though the finish wasn’t exactly great. So I’ll take the blue brand again.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 4: PROMOS
Raw was 95% promos. So you’d think they’d win this, but they won’t. Because most all their promos were total duds like everything else they did Monday night.
SmackDown didn’t have anything over the top impressive with promos. But it was better than the awful crap Raw spit out.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 5: STORYLINES
I am really enjoying SmackDown’s WrestleMania main event storyline. It seems obvious that its going to be Harper vs. Orton vs. Bray and that could be really good. I’m just waiting for The Revival to come out and challenge American Alpha and I’ll be a happy man. Only wish it was planned to be Shinsuke vs. AJ instead of Shane vs. AJ.
Last I checked on the Raw side, Goldberg is still getting a title match. So I still hate it. Oh, and I’m so tired of Charlotte Flair.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 6: SCHEDULING / PACING
Two hours > Three hours. Even if Raw was only two hours, I’m convinced it would still be awful.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 7: VISUAL PRESENTATION
This is simply a pity point for Raw. It’s hard to designate a difference between the two shows, and Raw hasn’t won a single point yet. I feel like a pity point is worse than a sweep, and the show on Monday was so boring it needs to be worse than a sweep. So pity point it is.
WINNER: SmackDown
EXTRA CREDIT BONUS ROUND!!!
I should take a point from Raw, but the pity point needs to stay.
POINT ADJUSTMENTS: Raw (+0 / -0) / SmackDown (+0 / -0)
THIS WEEK'S WINNER = SmackDown
SmackDown wins with a 6-1 tally. Raw has been so frustratingly boring that I would rather do almost anything else than watch it. Goldberg getting a title match is so ridiculous and I will never think it is a good idea. Roman destroying your tag champs 1 on 2 over and over again is ridiculous. Why would I watch that?
That's my pick for the better show of the week, but how do YOU stand?
Which was better, Raw or SmackDown?
