Review of UFC 208 pay-per-view Holm vs de Randamie

MAIN CARD

FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Holly Holm vs Germaine de Randamie

A very good, close fight that's difficult to score. But, de Randamie continued striking Holm after the end of two of the rounds and should have been deducted a point. That would have made this a draw and that would have been fairer to Holly Holm.

RESULT: Germaine de Randamie, unanimous decision.

MIDDLEWEIGHT: Anderson Silva (#7) vs Derek Brunson (#8)

I'm not sure how Silva won this. Brunson easily won the 1st and 3rd rounds with Silva taking the second. I'm glad Silva got a win before he retired, but I think he has to take this bad decision and retire with a victory. A legend of the sport, but as he said himself after the fight, he's too old for it now.

RESULT: Anderson Silva, unanimous decision.

MIDDLEWEIGHT: Ronaldo Souza (#3) vs Tim Boetsch (#13)

FINALLY! The only fight of the night to be finished and it was pretty much that simple. Souza got it to the ground, locked in the kimura and Boetsch tapped.

RESULT: Ronaldo Souza, 1st round submission.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT: Glover Teixeira (#3) vs Jared Cannonier (#15)

Teixeira destroyed Cannonier. Completely one-sided.

RESULT: Glover Teixeira, unanimous decision.

LIGHTWEIGHT: Dustin Poirier (#10) vs Jim Miller

I'm not sure how the judges disagreed so much on this, I had Poirier down as an easy 30-27 winner. Not sure where the 10-8 round was at any point.

RESULT: Dustin Poirier, majority decision.

PRELIMINARY CARD

WELTERWEIGHT: Randy Brown vs Belal Muhammad

Muhammad won all three rounds and I don't really understand why one of the judges gave Brown a round. The first round of this fight was very entertaining.

RESULT: Belal Muhammad, unanimous decision.

FLYWEIGHT: Wilson Reis (#5) vs Ulka Sasaki

A very close fight, second round could've gone either way, but I agree with the judges this time.

RESULT: Wilson Reis, Unanimous decision.

LIGHTWEIGHT: Nik Lentz vs Islam Makhachev

Makhachev absolutely dominated this fight, easy win, I would have given it 30-26, but I don't think I can argue with 30-25.

RESULT: Islam Makhachev, unanimous decision.

FEATHERWEIGHT: Rick Glenn vs Phillipe Nover

I understand why this was scored so closely and neither guy won all 3 rounds, even if one of the judges saw it that way. I would have edged towards Nover, but I'm not paid to be a judge.

RESULT: Rick Glenn, split decision.

EARLY PRELIMINARY CARD

WELTERWEIGHT: Ryan LaFlare vs Roan Carneiro

This was a decent fight, the judges seemed confused about how to score it, but LaFlare definitely deserved the win. Although I would give Carneiro the final round.

RESULT: Ryan LaFlare, unanimous decision.
