WWE Monday Night Raw - January 2, 2017 - Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL
WWE SmackDown - January 3, 2017 – Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL
BATTLE OF THE BRANDS:
RAW vs. SMACKDOWN
FACTOR 1: CROWD
Both shows took over Florida, which in my opinion, is NXT country. But thankfully both crowds showed up. Again, SmackDown is more fun to cheer for, this they had the louder more involved crowd.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 2: COMMENTARY
I know this is a viable category. Commentary is a vital part in every wrestling show, but this is purely dominated by the blue brand. However, a small win for Raw because I didn't hate Byron Saxton as much this week. So... Progress?
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 3: MATCHES
When it comes to matches, and really the entire show, Raw was confusing. With KO getting himself disqualified losing his chance to support his best friend, Karl Anderson besting Cesaro, and a decent US Title match. The shining part for Raw was the last man standing match with Braun and Sami putting on a good show.
For SmackDown, we saw a good match with Ziggler and Corbin and then a much needed heel turn for Ziggler. Becky vs. La Luchadora(or two, one being Alexa Bliss), and a good Intercontinental Championship match even though I didn't want Dean to win. I'll give this win to SmackDown.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 4: PROMOS
For this, I'm going to compare the two big promos one on each show. Raw having the first ever Kevin Owens Show with Goldberg, and SmackDown having the WWE Championship contract signing.
Raws just wasn't fun for me... I love KO and Y2J, but this seemed like a mess. Then with Roman and Braun randomly coming in along with Paul Heyman making a two second appearance I really dind't enjoy this.
SmackDowns though.. Was great. Cena and AJ both spit out some serious truth and being joined bby Baron Corbin towards the end only helped. Another win for the blue brand.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 5: STORYLINES
Looking at the main storylines, being the championships, I love SmackDowns. And The Wyatt Family turmoil is interesting to me as well. Having Roman in the title match scene really turns me off to that. Cena and AJ has my attention of course, and I'm currently addicted to The Miz and his run. Dolph's heel turn only helps.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 6: SCHEDULING / PACING
Two hours > three hours.
WINNER: SmackDown
FACTOR 7: VISUAL PRESENTATION
To avoid a full sweep, I'm giving this to Raw. I'll explain below.
WINNER: Raw
EXTRA CREDIT BONUS ROUND!!!
Nothing this week.
POINT ADJUSTMENTS: Raw (+0 / -0) / SmackDown (+0 / -0)
THIS WEEK'S WINNER = SmackDown
I gave Raw one point because it wasn't bad enough to be a full sweep. Certainly not good enough for the win either. Hopefully we get Finn back soon because he will help A LOT. SmackDown wins 6-1.
That's my pick for the better show of the week, but how do YOU stand?
Which was better, Raw or SmackDown?
