Alexa Bliss began her NXT career as just another no-name bikini bodybuilder signee with no hype surrounding her name. Debuting as a face with a fairy-esque gimmick, Bliss smiled and skipped to the ring with her sparkly attire. Eventually, Bliss turned heel and aligned herself with the alliance of Blake and Murphy. Together, they dominated the NXT tag-team division as Blake and Murphy held the NXT Tag Team Championships for 219 days–the second longest title reign since its inception.
Alexa Bliss' original Fairy gimmick |
Upon Bliss' arrival to the main roster, she began laying waste to many female talents–defeating Becky Lynch (ironically) in her debut as well as defeating the team of Naomi, Becky Lynch and Carmella at SummerSlam. It's evident that there were big plans ahead for the main roster's newcomer. Eventually she won a six-pack challenge which guaranteed her a title shot against the inaugural SmackDown Live Women's Champion, Becky Lynch.
In challenging for the title, Bliss came up short in the first encounter as she was screwed by poor officiating from the ref. Although her foot was placed on the rope, she eventually tapped to the devastating Dis-arm-her from Becky Lynch. "If it wasn't for that dumb referee not seeing my foot on the ropes... I would be Women's Champion!," proclaimed a fiery and passionate Bliss on Talking Smack following her loss on SmackDown Live. This eventually led to the rematch being set for TLC in a tables match.

With Bliss' dominant streak going, her and Lynch's contract signing on last week's SmackDown Live showed that the blue brand's women are just as capable of entertaining the masses like Raw's
So really, is it Alexa Bliss' time to shine? Although Bliss didn't come from the indies or any renowned wrestling background, it's evident that Bliss possesses a natural talent for wrestling that simply cannot be taught. Starting from a clean slate, Bliss worked her way from the bottom of NXT to the top of SmackDown Live in a relatively short time. A certain female wrestling legend by the name of Trish Stratus had a very similar comeuppance story.
Many will argue that this takes the spotlight off of Becky Lynch after nearly a year of being overshadowed by Sasha Banks and Charlotte, but this simply is not the end for Becky Lynch. Wrestling fans tend to deal in absolutes, which is a dangerous game to play. We mustn't forget that Lynch is guaranteed a rematch at the title. We also mustn't forget that if she comes up short, her talent in the end will send her to the top of SmackDown Live's women's division once again.
As for Alexa Bliss, TLC was the perfect moment to let her shine. With her "Five Feet of Fury," Alexa Bliss is bound to dominate SmackDown Live's women's division for quite some time to come.
