WWE Title Change: Finn Balor Vacates Universal Championship

Posted by Anthony Mango Monday, August 22, 2016
Just one night after being crowned the first-ever WWE Universal champion, Finn Balor will be forced to relinquish his title on the August 22nd edition of Monday Night Raw. He suffered a shoulder injury during his match with Seth Rollins, which will require surgery.

My immediate reaction: I was severely disappointed with SummerSlam in many different ways, with Finn Balor winning the Universal Championship being one of the very few positives. Lo and behold, that was completely undone from this news, too. From the very beginning of this talk about a brand split, I've been saying that this is a mistake, as 2015 proved WWE has too many injuries and suspensions to be able to handle a split roster. Look at what has happened in August: Shelton Benjamin is injured, Paige is suspended, Alberto Del Rio is suspended and likely to leave, Eva Marie is suspended, Sasha Banks is injured, and now Finn Balor is. This just goes to show that this was a mistake and I'm really not looking forward to the next few months of WWE programming where they struggle EVEN MORE than last year to work with a lesser card. This sucks for fans, this sucks for Finn Balor, this sucks for the Universal Championship for being an ugly belt with a legacy that the first champion gives is up 24 hours later, and this sucks for Raw and SmackDown.
