Daniel Bryan is scheduled to reveal two new championships and the fallout from SummerSlam as well as the build to Backlash will be covered tonight. This is sure to be a jam-packed edition of SmackDown!
PROMO (Backstage): Some members of the roster are hanging out and AJ Styles comes up to gloat. He talks trash about John Cena and Dolph Ziggler, who takes offense to it, and they start to fight.
The tag teams and the women of the roster are in the ring for the presentation of the two new championships, which look exactly the same as the belts on Raw except they have blue. IE, the Tag Team Championship is now the ugliest belt on the roster. The SmackDown Women's Championship is actually looking good. A six-pack challenge will determine the women's champion and a tournament will culminate for the Tag Team Championship as well, both happening at Backlash. Heath Slater comes out and it's decided that if he finds a tag team partner by the end of the night, he'll be entered into the tournament, and if he and his partner win the belts, he'll earn a spot on the roster. AJ Styles comes out to...well, I'm not really sure...and Dolph Ziggler jumps him.

MATCH: Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss
RESULTS: Becky Lynch via submission
THOUGHTS: Natalya and Naomi on commentary were pretty bad. The match was okay for a short thing, though.
PROMO (Backstage): Heath Slater asks The Miz to be his tag team partner, and it seems like he's interested, but it turns out he's been talking on a bluetooth device the entire time (to Stephen Spielberg in regards to being the next Indiana Jones).
*Commercial Break*
MATCH: The Ascension vs. The Usos
RESULTS: The Usos via pinfall
THOUGHTS: To be perfectly honest, I didn't bother paying attention to this match as The Ascension never wins. I even typed "The Usos via pinfall" right when it started.
*Commercial Break*
PROMO (In-Ring): AJ Styles grabs a mic, saying the locker room is filled with jealous faces for him having defeated John Cena. He says he should be the #1 contender for the WWE World Championship. He's the new face that runs the place. Dolph Ziggler comes out and several referees stop him from doing anything. Daniel Bryan comes out to put an end to things. He says they're both entitled to being in that spot, so there's going to be a match. If AJ wins, he gets a singles title shot. If Ziggler wins, he's added to the mix and it becomes a triple threat. So basically, AJ Styles is definitely getting a title shot and Ziggler might.

Nikki Bella is set to wrestle coming up after the break. First, they need to air some Chuck Norris facts. I mean, Curt Hawkins facts.
MATCH: Carmella vs. Nikki Bella
Renee Young tries to interview Nikki, but Carmella attacks her. Heel turn?
RESULTS: No contest.
THOUGHTS: Um...
*Commercial Break*
PROMO (In-Ring): Randy Orton heads to the ring. He says he would have rather been stretchered out than to have the match at SummerSlam end the way it did, but he and Brock Lesnar will meet again. Bray Wyatt comes out to interrupt. Bray does what he always does, by which I mean he speaks a lot of words but actually says nothing.
PROMO (Backstage): Charly Caruso talks to Shane McMahon about Brock Lesnar. He says he crossed the line and that he doesn't trust that Stephanie will take this matter seriously. Brock was fined $500 and that's it. He says "this thing between Brock Lesnar and myself is far from over."
*Commercial Break*
PROMO (Backstage): Heath Slater says he's a Ric Flair so he needs an enforcer, and talks to Arn Anderson himself. Arn denies because he wasn't Slater's first choice. Rhyno comes up and accepts the role of being Slater's partner.
MATCH: Breezango vs. American Alpha
This is a first-round match for the tournament.
RESULTS: American Alpha via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: It's a shame Breezango are eliminated already instead of The Ascension, but American Alpha needs to win the whole thing, so this was going to happen down the line at some point anyway.
PROMO (Backstage): Charly Caruso talks to Dean Ambrose about the upcoming match between Styles and Ziggler. He says he just found out as he was gambling. A waitress serves him a drink and he tips her some chips.
*Commercial Break*
MATCH: Dolph Ziggler vs. AJ Styles
Dean Ambrose is ringside for commentary. Side note: why do they have the commentary table ringside for SmackDown but not for Raw? Weird.
RESULTS: AJ Styles via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Rock solid match and definitely the best of the night. I'm very surprised at the outcome and curious where they're going to go from here.
