SmackDown's WWE No Mercy 2016 Results

We've got our regular quartet for the pre-show panel (Renee Young, Booker T, Jerry Lawler and Lita) as well as Tom Phillips in the social media lounge.

Even though two other matches were scheduled for the kickoff, Curt Hawkins comes out and he has a voice over similar to Eva Marie, but worse. He says he did what he said he would do: stepped foot in the ring at No Mercy. Pyro goes off. He then says he'll leave everyone with a big announcement: his first match will be on the next episode of SmackDown, Tuesday night.

Backstage, Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan tell Alexa Bliss that Becky Lynch won't compete. Alexa thinks this means she's the new champion, but they say she'll get her title shot on November 8th. Really, WWE? You're going to follow up a "wait until Tuesday" announcement with "also, wait until November" announcement?

But hey, at least we have a pointless 8-man tag match that we've seen virtually every week since the brand split!

8-Man Tag Team Match: American Alpha & The Hype Bros vs. The Vaudevillains & The Ascension

RESULTS: American Alpha and The Hype Bros via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Well, this was better than what preceded it, but it was still utterly pointless.

WWE World Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose

At one point, AJ Styles taps out to both Dean Ambrose and John Cena at the same time, but referee Mike Chioda says it's invalid (since there's no clear winner) and the match will continue.

RESULTS: AJ Styles retains via pinfall (on Cena after a chair shot).
THOUGHTS: Very solid match. I really hope this doesn't just go downhill from here.

Nikki Bella vs. Carmella

RESULTS: Nikki Bella via pinfall (Rack Attack 2.0)
THOUGHTS: This was fine for what we all expected it would be.

Backstage, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon are watching the monitor. The Miz and Maryse come up to them to address the upcoming match with Dolph Ziggler. He says he wants to renegotiate his contract once he forces Ziggler to retire.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: Heath Slater & Rhyno (c) vs. The Usos

RESULTS: Heath Slater and Rhyno retain via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Didn't see this one coming, and I hope it doesn't end up being a mistake. I still think The Usos should have won the belts, but at least the match was entertaining. Prove me wrong, WWE, and don't make me look back at No Mercy and think you made the wrong call.

Jack Swagger vs. Baron Corbin

RESULTS: Baron Corbin via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Decent filler match. I'm glad Corbin won.

Intercontinental Championship Title vs Career Match: The Miz (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

RESULTS: Dolph Ziggler wins the title via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Best match of the night, and I'm very, very happy at the outcome. All those people who say Ziggler doesn't have entertainment value anymore (and likewise, the ones that say The Miz can't wrestle) need to eat their words after watching this. Why wasn't this the main event?!

Alexa Bliss grabs and mic and goes to the ring. She says there's not a single woman in the arena who is on the same level as she is. The obvious answer to that is Naomi being thrown into the role as filler replacement.

Naomi vs. Alexa Bliss

RESULTS: Naomi via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Oh look, they tried to shock everyone by having Naomi win, which will give them a reason to feud until November 8th. It's not a bad play, but it still doesn't fix the problem that they should have known about Becky Lynch's situation well in advance and done a better job booking around her absence.

Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton

RESULTS: Bray Wyatt via pinfall after Luke Harper returns to cause a distraction.
THOUGHTS: Glad Harper is back, glad he's on SmackDown, but I wanted to see him return as a babyface to start a feud with Wyatt instead. This match wasn't good enough for the main event.
