WWE Battleground 2016 Results |
Pre-Show Kickoff Match: The Usos vs. Breezango
RESULTS: Breezango via pinfall (roll-up)
THOUGHTS: Meh, it's a pre-show match. Glad Breezango won.
Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs. Sasha Banks & Bayley
RESULTS: Sasha Banks and Bayley via submission (Sasha makes Charlotte tap out with the Bank Statement)
THOUGHTS: Very glad to see Bayley be the mystery partner and for her team to get the win.
The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family
RESULTS: The Wyatt Family via pinfall (Wyatt pins Woods after a Sister Abigail)
THOUGHTS: Very solid match with a good ending to it. The crowd got super pumped to see Xavier Woods fight back against Bray Wyatt in particular. I would have liked to see some sort of ending to The Wyatt Family take place, but I'm okay with this outcome nonetheless.
United States Championship Match: Rusev (c) vs. Zack Ryder
RESULTS: Rusev via submission with the Accolade
THOUGHTS: Ryder seemed like a legitimate challenger, which is good. At one point, I even thought he could be winning the match. So long as The Miz doesn't drop the Intercontinental Championship later on, I'm okay with this.
Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens
RESULTS: Sami Zayn via pinfall (Helluva Kick(s) did the job)
THOUGHTS: Amazing match! This is going to be really, really tough to follow and I even have added this to my list of favorite matches of the year.
Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
RESULTS: Natalya via submission (Sharpshooter)
THOUGHTS: As bland as I expected it to be.
Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz (c) vs. Darren Young
RESULTS: No contest. There was a scuffle with Maryse and Bob Backlund, and then Darren Young put The Miz in a Crossface Chicken Wing on the outside and suddenly the bell rang.
THOUGHTS: Lame ending, but at least Darren Young isn't the champion.
Six Man Tag Team Match: John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. The Club
RESULTS: John Cena, Enzo Amore and Big Cass via pinfall (Attitude Adjustment from the turnbuckle to AJ Styles)
THOUGHTS: The right team won to help balance out the odds a bit from previous encounters. Pre-match promo was fantastic and definitely the highlight of the segment.
Highlight Reel with Randy Orton hosted by Chris Jericho
Let's see if anything happens other than talking about how Brock Lesnar is tough but Orton is tougher, ending with an RKO to Jericho.
It wasn't.
WWE Championship Triple Threat Match: Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns
RESULTS: Dean Ambrose via pinfall (Dirty Deeds on Roman Reigns)
THOUGHTS: I'm very happy with this result. Ambrose should have retained and Reigns deserved to take the loss after his suspension. Good match on top of it, too.
