Cheap Pop & Cheap Heat of the Week in Wrestling: 4/16/2015

Posted by Anthony Mango Thursday, April 16, 2015
Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?

CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
NOBODY PUTS BABYFACE IN THE CORNER

Fandango has FINALLY turned face. It's about time, right?! This guy might not be a future WWE World Heavyweight champion any time soon, but he's been overlooked drastically for quite a while. He's talented in the ring, his character was super over with the crowd during his initial run, and he's got a great look to him. I see no reason why him as a face can't be a solid hand in the midcard division which has gotten a nice revamp as of late and could use as many entertaining people as possible to help keep things moving smoothly. Ditching Rosa Mendes might seem like a stupid idea considering how attractive she is, but when you look at her track record in WWE, it's actually a step up to have nobody by your side than someone who has literally said that her goal is to win "a match" and could easily be fired at any moment for not really bringing anything to the table. Judging by the crowd's reaction on Raw, it seems as though I'm not the only one down with this resurgence of Fandango.

CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
INJURIOUS BASTERDS

This is not a good week for the health of WWE's roster. While there have been worse time periods where nearly 1/4 of the talent were out in some fashion, it seems like this post-WrestleMania time frame is a little harsh. Jey Uso is out for six months, meaning there's a chance Jimmy Uso can struggle to stay relevant and the tag team division will be lacking arguably their best duo. Daniel Bryan has been protected and pulled from matches as WWE is apparently afraid that he is too injured and it will catch up to him very soon. Then, you've got the jobber treatment of The Ascension, which is a figurative injury because it does nothing but harm to their careers. To cap it all off, Richie Steamboat is supposedly done with wrestling and won't be lacing up his boots, so for all those (like myself) who were really looking forward to seeing what he could do in NXT and the main roster, it seems that's never going to happen.

So there you have it, my two choices for the week. What do YOU think are the Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat this week in professional wrestling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
