WWE Battleground 2014 Spoilers |
Follow along here for spoilers and information on the event's card, lineup of matches and news regarding the pay-per-view.
Here are my predictions for the 2014 WWE Battleground PPV. Check back for Battleground 2014 results and review coverage here.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship [Fatal 4-Way Match]: John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane vs. Roman Reigns
This is a big enough match to work for this filler pay-per-view, even if it won't be a huge selling point. It's also a good idea to keep things general rather than starting a feud for Cena if he's going to drop the title to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
PREDICTION: Cena retains the championship.
Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal: Cesaro vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Damien Sandow vs. Great Khali vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Big E vs. Ryback vs. Curtis Axel vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Bo Dallas vs. Sheamus vs. Fandango vs. Sin Cara vs. Zack Ryder vs. The Miz vs. Adam Rose vs. Diego vs. R-Truth vs. Xavier Woods vs. Heath Slater vs. Titus O'Neil
It's a shame that Bad News Barrett is injured, but at least we'll see a new champion instead of having the title just sit around and do nothing. I'd like to see Cesaro win this, but I'd actually be okay with some other people, as well. The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston, Damien Sandow, or Fandango are all people that I'd like to see come out on top. As much as I'm not the biggest Sheamus fan, part of me even kind of hopes he wins to unify the belts and just get it out of the way, though I'd rather him be the runner-up and whomever wins the Intercontinental title ends up unifying it at SummerSlam or Night of Champions against him.
PREDICTION: Cesaro wins.
Divas Championship: AJ Lee (c) vs. Paige
Well, there goes my idea about a triple threat with Paige facing Naomi and Cameron, right? It's a shame, as I think that could have worked for this month and they could have held off on AJ Lee for SummerSlam. After all, SummerSlam is supposed to be the #2 pay-per-view of the year, not a supplemental one that has nothing but rematches, right? Now that AJ Lee has returned and won the title, it's a given that we'll get this rematch here. It should be good, so that's a huge positive.
PREDICTION: AJ Lee retains the championship.
Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt
Just as I think WWE is skipping ahead for no reason and depriving themselves of an extra month's worth of story with the Divas match, I think this was a mistake. We could have easily had Jericho vs The Miz and held off on Wyatt. Now, a SummerSlam match isn't going to be exciting between these two unless they do something major to spruce it up.
PREDICTION: Jericho wins.
Tag Team Championship [2-out-of-3 Falls Match]: The Usos vs. Luke Harper & Erick Rowan
The last match was very good and reports are saying that this feud will continue. It looks like that's true, as they're still having some random tag matches together. At this point, I hope The Usos keep the titles, as they're consistently performing well and I have my doubts about the Wyatt Family matching that momentum or surpassing it....though I still think that we'll see a title switch. Having this be a 2-out-of-3 Falls match is interesting and should definitely be the blowoff for this feud.
PREDICTION: Harper and Rowan win the titles.
Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins
I'm very excited to see this match. I think it has a chance to be the best one of the night. To be fair, though, I think a gimmick match between the two would end up being a lot better (like a Street Fight or something), and I hope that's coming at SummerSlam. Definitely keep your eyes open as far as this match is concerned.
PREDICTION: Seth Rollins wins.
Rusev vs. Jack Swagger
WE THE PEOPLE! Jack Swagger is finally a babyface and it's unfortunate that he'll be fed to Rusev, but at least this will be a step up from what he's been doing as of late. I fully welcome this change in character and I'm more interested in seeing this match than anything else Rusev has done in months. I still probably won't be a huge fan of the segment, but I know I'll enjoy it a lot more if Swagger wins.
PREDICTION: Rusev udrea. Rusev machka.
Kickoff Pre-Show: Cameron vs. Naomi
This pre-show isn't going to gain subscribers for the network, but at least they're following through with this and having an actual match. I don't have high hopes for the match in general, but I could be wrong. If it's not too entertaining, it'll be Cameron's fault, since Naomi has proven herself capable in the ring. Side note: what is up with all those social icons on this image WWE was using to promote this match? WWE Network, the WWE app, WWE.com, Pinterest, Google+, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Mountain Dew....I'm surprised there isn't Friendster and MySpace.
PREDICTION: Cameron wins after cheating in some way (holding the tights or something).
