Getting Over: WWE Releases - Yay or Nay

Posted by Wago Thursday, June 12, 2014
WWE generally does a large set of releases each year. This creates space for the up and coming guys on the NXT roster as well as saves some money on guys who aren't going to bring you in revenue, or solves the problem of creative simply having nothing for them. In today's Getting Over, I'm going to be looking at who got released and giving those decisions a "yay" or "nay".

Aksana
It looks like she stuck around just long enough to be in the Smark Out Moment Sexiest Women Tournament. It's no surprise she got cut though. When you talk about expendable talent, Aksana is at the top of the list. She has a pretty decent look, but it stops right there. Next to Eva Marie, she holds the distinction for worst female wrestler on the roster. I have no issue with this, WWE gets a yay!

Jinder Mahal
WWE 3MB released Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre
The Jinder has been hindered
It's been a running gag on Smack Talk that one day, Jinder Mahal would shock the world and turn babyface. I guess those hopes are going to be cast aside as WWE hinders the Jinder. He was always the weak man when it came to 3MB. He can't really talk, he never fit the gimmick too well, and his singles career was a dud. Again, WWE gets a yay!

Drew McIntyre
This one honestly came as a surprise to me, as I always thought Drew had potential to be something again. When they threw him in the Big Johnny versus Teddy feud or in the Elimination Chamber, he never got lost in the shuffle, even on the downside of his career. It's a shame we'll never get to see him do anything post-3MB. I think it's truly a missed opportunity and a mishandled talent. WWE gets a nay!

Brodus Clay
When I first read Brodus's name, I wasn't too sure what to think. Whilst it doesn't come as surprise, I am disappointed. Brodus was one of the few big guys that could actually deliver in the ring. Even with his weight and less than chiseled physique, he worked well as a face or heel. With that said, I don't think there is much more you can do with this guy, now that any monster appeal is gone. Turning him babyface again would be too soon. So, I have to agree with WWE - Yay!

Evan Bourne
This one hurts the most for me, because I'm a big Evan Bourne fan. He was apparently ready to come back, but was never got the opportunity. The fact that John Cena, Chris Jericho and so many others have praised him speaks for itself. This guy can go in the ring and was apart of an awesome tag team in Air Boom. Be it breathing life in to the tag division or having awesome matches, WWE missed the boat. - Nay!

Yoshi Tatsu
If anything, I feel bad for Yoshi Tatsu. The guy was stopped from moving to a Japanese community and forced to stay in NXT for grooming he didn't need. Then, after all the crap they put him through, they cut the guy. I don't disagree with releasing him, since as far as Japanese talent go, he's one of the less impressive. He honestly did nothing for me in or out of the ring. It's just as shame they acted dicks to him before pulling the plug on his WWE career...  - Yay!

Curt Hawkins
A regular on WWE Superstars, Curt Hawkins is an awesome talent. I've always felt that he was the better in-ring competitor out of him and Zack Ryder. In addition with the tag division all but dead, he's one of the guys that could have helped by reviving the Major Bros, obviously with a new name. I think this is a just another case of not being given opportunity, not even on NXT. It's not a case of the guy doing the same shtick. He's updated his look and character in the past but never had the platform to try to utilize it. Honestly, it's ridiculous. - Nay!

Camacho
He rode a bicycle once... - Yay!

That's it for the in ring talent, and I expect this article to become out dated in a few days. Generally, it's a snowball effect and we'll see even more released. So what are your thoughts on the WWE releases? Let me know in the comments below, and since we know where all these guys are going to end up. I'll leave on this note.

Fuck TNA.
